CONTENT STANDARDS: The learners demonstrate understanding of characteristics of planets in the solar system PERFORMANCE STANDARDS: The learners should compare the planets of the solar system. FOCUS SKILLS: Remembering, understanding TITLECARDTITLECARD

Hi kids.. Today we are going to explore our Solar System. You will learn about the major planets of the solar system. They are divided into two groups the terrestrial planets which are composed of Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars while Gas giant planets are Jupiter,Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, because of this, we can fully understand our solar system. So…let’s begin GUIDECARD1GUIDECARD1

CELESTIAL ESCAPADE Let’s begin the journey Major planets are composed of big and small planets they are called terrestrial and gas giants.Terrestrial planets are small rocky and inner planets.Gaseous giant-big no lithosphere and outer planets Direction: Cut out pictures and paste it on its proper position in the solar system.

CHARACTERISTICS OF YOURS Major planets are composed of big and small planets they are called terrestrial and gas giants. Terrestrial planets are small rocky and inner planets. Gaseous giant-big no lithosphere and outer planets.

WHO AM I ? Mercury Earth Venus Mars Jupiter Uranus Neptune Saturn Direction: Fill in the blanks with the correct answer. 1. I am a small planet nearest to the sun.Who am I ? _______ 2. I am the morning and the evening star and second planet from the sun_____________. 3. I am the third and blue planet where life exist ________. 4. I am the fourth red and rocky planet___________. 5. I am the fifth and biggest planet in the solar system________. 6. I am the sixth and ringed planet.___________ 7. I am the seventh and made of ice frozen water planet.______ 8. I am the farthest planet with dark spots_________. You made it….Let’s learn more!!!!!!!

Directions: Compare and contrast the characteristics of the inner and outer planets by completing the Venn diagram. Choose your answers from the box.  ROCKY PLANET BIG PLANET INNER PLANET  NO LITHISPHERE SMALL PLANET HAVE LITHOSPHERE  FAR FROM THE SUN NEAR FROM THE SUN ACTIVITYCARD2ACTIVITYCARD2 TERRESTRIALGAS GIANT YOU’VE MADE IT !!! 9 DIRECTION :ARRANGE THE PLANET ACCORDING TO DISTANCE FROM THE SUN. FROM A DISTANCE

Modified True or False: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and FALSE it is wrong. Underline the word/s that make/s them incorrect and write the correct answer. __________ 1. Inner planets have shorter orbital period than the outer planets. __________ 2. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are made of hydrogen and helium while Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune are made of rocks and iron. Multiple Choice: Identify the letter of the choices that best completes the statement or answers the question. ____3. Which planet is the largest ? a. Earth c. Jupiter b. Saturn d. Mars ____4. Which planet is the most similar to Earth with respect to size and distance? a. Mercury c. Mars b. Jupiter d. Venus ___5. Uranus and Neptune are smaller than Jupiter and Saturn, and yet they __________. a. are made of gases.c. have more water b. have more light elements. d. All of the above

Direction: Answer briefly. * Why Pluto is not considered as major planet?

 Modified True or False: Write True if the statement is correct and FALSE underline the word/s that make/s it incorrect and supply the correct answer.  TRUE1. Inner planets have shorter orbital period than the outer planets.  FALSE 2. Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars are made of rocks and iron while Jupiter, Saturn,  Uranus and Neptune are made of hydrogen and helium.  Multiple Choice: Identify the letter of the choices that best completes the statement or answers the question.  C 3. Of the following, which is the largest planet?  a. Earth c. Jupiter  b. Saturn d. Mars  D 4. Which planet is the most similar to Earth with respect to size, & distance ?  a. Mercury c. Mars  b. Jupiter d. Venus  A 5. Uranus and Neptune are much smaller than Jupiter and Saturn, and yet they have similar  densities. This suggests that they  a. made of gases. b made of water c. made of iron  d. made of light elements.  ANSWER CARD
