FRUIT AND VEGETABLES NURSERY IMPORTANCE AND SCOPES Nursery is consequently the basic need of horticulture. Plant propagation techniques and practices is the core of horticulture nurseries. The planting materials for horticultural plantations are raised from seeds and vegetative parts Role of Mother Plants is very primary and important.

If seeds are directly planted in the farm, the spacing between them after they grow might be uneven. But if they grow to a sapling stage in the nursery and then are planted, the spacing between them will be equal throughout. This is necessary so that there is no competition for water and minerals between the plants. To keep plants safe from too cold or too hot weather

WORKING TOOLS (TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT) Simple tools & equipment's are required to carry out the activity. Pickaxe: for breaking up hard and stony ground. Hoe: for loosening the soil. Shovel: for moving earth, sieving soil, and mixing soil. Rake:for breaking up and levelling the soil. Sieve (chan’ni): for sifting soil for the seedbeds and potting Funnel: for filling pots with soil mixture. Watering can: for watering seedlings. Wheelbarrow: for transporting potting soil, filled pots, tools, seedlings, etc. Pruners: for pruning the roots that grow out of the pots. Germination tray: for germinating small quantities of seed. Pointed sticks: for weeding seedbeds and potted stock. Tools for pricking: for lifting germinated seedlings
