2. Arthur J. Hagan June 20, 1918 - August 4, 1992
Born in Chelsea, Massachusetts
Died at age 74

3. Education/ Skills Attended & Graduated Chelsea High School
Class of 1936
Worked as a machinist at the General Electric (GE) in Lynn MA.

4. Interests Loved animals Very mechanically inclined
Very active: liked swimming, fishing
Worked hard at the family restaurant

5. Enlisting Enlisted in the U.S. Army 1940 at the age of 23
Was in the 45th Division for the US Army
Stationed in Fort Devens in Ayer, Massachusetts
Trained in amphibious assault techniques

6. Services Was part of D-Day
His tour included Normandy, Germany, and the United Kingdom
The thing he hated most was seeing the suffering of the Jewish people

7. Honors in Service Served for 4 years, returning at the end of the war
Bronze Star
A Bronze star is awarded for extreme bravery,

8. Coming Home
After serving 4 years in the army, he went back to school to become a plumber
Got married
People who knew him before the war said he changed when he came home:
• his hands shook after the war
•He didn’t like big crowds
•He was very quits

9. Building A Life Married Margaret Menkello in 1946
Raised his family in Wakefield and in Reading
Had 3 Daughters

•Marianne
•Nancy
Family Dog Rex (named after a Military dog)
Worked at Charles River Breeding Labs in Wilmington, MA

10. Memories Of A Long Life “ Family was everything to him”
Married for 47 years
Died at the age of 74
Left 8 grandchildren
Left 15 great-grandchildren
