Born in Moscow in 1866
His parents played the piano, so he was introduced to different types of music at an early age
He learned to play the piano and cello
His fascination of emotional power of music drew him into abstract works of art
Kandinsky conducts metaphors of music in his paintings

3. Behind The Paint
Wassily Kandinsky was one of the 1st people to create abstract art, which he called improvisations-(w/o preparation)
He valued shapes, lines, and colors as carriers of spontaneous emotional and spiritual expression.
He made the painting just before the outbreak out of WWI (1914)
Kandinsky painted a whirlwind of explosive lines and colors that suggest both the terror of catastrophe and the elation of rebirth
