Firework Safety
2
Dangerous Fun Many people love lighting off fireworks around this time of year. They provide entertainment and celebration during the summer. Every year there are injuries reported due to misuse of fireworks. Most accidents can be avoided by using a few quick tips.
3
Supervision is Key Never light off fireworks alone. You should always be with someone just in case an accident does occur. Parents/caretakers should always supervise teens when using fireworks. Children should never handle or use fireworks at anytime.
4
Use Common Sense Don’t light fireworks indoors; they are only meant to be used outside. Read the caution labels before using any fireworks. Wear safety goggles when lighting off fireworks. Alcohol and fireworks should never be mixed.
5
Follow the Law Know your local laws. If fireworks are not permitted in your county or town, then do not light any off. Always report illegal explosives. For the safety of everyone, it is important to only use fireworks that are allowed.
6
Just in case.. Always have a hose or bucket of water nearby if you are shooting fireworks. Never relight a ‘dud firework’. Wait minutes after the first attempt and then soak the faulty firework in water. Before throwing any used fireworks away, make sure they are completely done smoking or burning before putting in the garbage.
7
Sparklers Never hold or light more than one sparkler at a time.
Do not throw sparklers. The sparkler stick can stay hot well after they have stopped sparking. Be sure to soak each stick in water after use. Do not run with or wave sparklers.
