Participants on the pilot schemes felt they:
Gained greater understanding of their role in the University

5. “ Evaluation Quotes”
Do it! It does not take much time and is a really good way to broaden your career experience.
It was good to meeting someone outside my department and understand a little more how other parts of the faculty work.
Do it! Its quite fun, enjoyable and rewarding.
I would recommend it hugely as you gain so much insight on how other departments are run and its helpful to share concerns/ideas with someone who is not your Line Manager.
I hoped to be able to help some develop their skills and work towards a goal – my mentee got another job so I definitely think the programme worked!
Go for it! It takes very little time but can be really valuable.
I found it useful to have someone outside my department to talk to and gain a better overview of the role of a technician in the University.
I would recommend the scheme to anyone because it is informal, confidential and flexible. You are able to tailor it so you get exactly what you need without feeling under any pressure to meet formal targets.
I think my mentoring partnership has benefited mostly by making a new friend in a different department, I especially enjoyed being shown around the department they worked in it. I found out about other new people who can help me in my work.
I liked that there was no pressure in the mentoring and I got what I wanted out of it
My mentor was excellent, exactly the level of person I was hoping to be matched with. We had lengthy chats about work, our department, the Faculty, problems, personal life, everything! I now have a greater understanding of the University and Faculty and have benefitted greatly from speak to someone with my mentor’s experience. It has been great!

The above schemes have been amalgamated and will run as the GROW Programme in two strands across the Faculties :–
Admin Focus and Technical Focus

Admin Focus is for all Faculty Professional Services staff based in any department across the three faculties.
TECHNICAL FOCUS
(formerly Science & Engineering)
Technical Focus is for all Technical staff based in any department across the three faculties including AMI.

10. How will it work?
Staff complete an application form and attend the appropriate training workshop(s)
Staff can apply to be a mentor and a mentee
Mentors and mentees will be paired by the co-ordinators and pairings confirmed in December 2012
An introductory meeting will take place
Mentors and mentees will meet a minimum of three times from January 2013 to July 2013
Decide what you would like to achieve
