A Healthy Parish A Healthy Parish is Intentional! Grows … NOT Swells
Bears Fruit Gives Multiplies A Healthy Parish is Intentional! We have chosen to change for the better – to grow. Swell is from elsewhere, we have but that is part of our potential, not our goal Fruit that endure Give = financially speak of proportional giving Multiply, hopes to send a team to assist an intentional pastor in neighboring parish. What is the fruit of an apple tree? Another Apple Tree! 14/10/2018

Life Cycle of Churches Sustained Health Intentional Growth Maintenance
Momentum Growth Life Preservation AOLP came into existence Growth, built this church, masses were full, decline Maintenance is about responding to the needs of parishioners, inward focused vs outward focused and being missionary It is about reacting to present needs vs being visionary and being intentional and planning long term Life Preserver is managing decline and focusing on reducing costs and cutting corners to stay in the black, Cutting back on engaging people, resources Life support is managing the closure of a parish Launch Life Support Where would you place AoLP on this graphic? 14/10/2018

A PASTORAL VISION FOR OTTAWA
“…they may draw others to become disciples – helping people to encounter Jesus and commit to his way of life – thereby becoming mature missionary disciples…The goal is that over time every parish will develop an active process of forming disciples …” Archbishop Terrence Prendergast S.J. Catholic Ottawa Spring/ Summer 2017 Quotes Pope Francis 14/10/2018

Intentional Missionary Discipleship
Process Introduced this here last year Concept of a checkmark, checking into one’s faith, leading to being a Mature Disciple a Missionary Disciple. Colours bc RED stopped, Orange start moving, GREEN bc actively engaged If at AGM bc in green, always that way, but not always clear that Evangelization piece invite someone else into the process My expectation is that every ministry will situate itself and evaluate itself in light of this process Belong Believe & Behave 14/10/2018

Pope Francis Vision “27. I dream of a “missionary option”, that is, a missionary impulse capable of transforming everything, so that the Church’s customs, ways of doing things, times and schedules, language and structures can be suitably channeled for the evangelization of today’s world rather than for her self-preservation...” AOLP all ready on track with Arch, but to Pope PPC using this as a lens for a few years now, Alcide will speak about the work of PPC this past year, but I cant help but share with you that the biggest ahha moment was the work on … structures which means we have a lot of work to do this year, but the good news is that we have people with expertise in this area and lots of tools available Hand it over to Alcide to speak about the work of PPC which he lead us through, and it was a lot of work he did to lead us through 14/10/2018

Leadership Challenge Bottle Neck Potential Teams Gifting
Humble Service Discernment Through Teams -Pastor as bottle neck -Culture says that I have to go thru Fr, only Fr can answer my question, I need to speak to the priest right now … -too many ministries, events, demands on time, = sheer volume is killing me -blessed with Lorie expanded the bottle neck, but still hitting a bottle neck -last year I complained of my burden in terms of so a many balls getting dropped, Lorie really helped Fr D and I with that -bottle neck is such heavy burden, bc of demands but also bc I know so much potential here to grow -so blessed with amazing core of faith filled Catholics but it is shrinking so I feel burden of urgency to move forward and be an attractive church and a catalyst of conversion -so many good things that have happened and are happening but many of our leaders have and are giving so much that many of them are saying this is killing me Leadership Challenge -bc pastors are the bottle neck need teams -Fr Mallon is super gifted, 1 year seminary we said that boy is gonna be a bishop but emphatic, that even he could not survive without his leadership teams, his church could not be healthy without Need the right people on your team- Ez to understand that need a variety of gifts “ St paul” for the building up of the body of Christ Right attitude of humble service, joy to minister and work with such people, it makes the burden lighter Discernment of what Holy Spirit is doing, happens as a team/body, Pastors can’t catch it all, but pastors still has the responsibility Del, resp, and authority to make decisions that affect ministries, events and PEOPLES’ desires/ideas/preferences SBP so far ahead of us and close to 20 staff, yet while I was there Fr Mallon got caught in the middle of a storm bc unknown to him a staff had told the person no bc it affected other ministries, so person came to Fr M with a very innocuous sounding query to which he said, “sure that sounds good to me”, and there was a pastoral storm to deal with, “aaahh not again” Toughest church cultural change we will face, Fr Mallon “low control, but high accountability” –need to be really careful and clear on this one 14/10/2018

Pastor’s Leadership Concept
Policy Governance Pastoral Council Finance Council Leadership Team Guiding Committees Staff Governance is about the big picture people. Their role is giving advice to the pastors as overseers of the direction of the parish. The Management team on the other hand takes its direction from the pastors and carries out or implements what is needed to . Guiding Committees Stewardship IT and AV In an active parish, Pastors requires two teams 1) provide Governance policy advice, and 2) Leadership on implementation. 14/10/2018

Intentional Missionary Discipleship
Process We are encouraged to look at all Ministries though this lens. As Fr. Yves mentioned, if you are serving in a ministry: a reader, an usher, a Pastoral Care minister,… anything where you are serving our parish. You are on this Check Mark. You are part of the process. You are in Ministry. By the very fact that you are in Ministry means you feel like you belong to this community. You believe the teachings of the Catholic Church and you are behaving or trying to behave as a disciple. Belong Believe & Behave 14/10/2018
