In 1938, Hitler began conquering neighboring lands with German-speaking populations German troops entered Austria unopposed Germany threatened Czechoslovakia and gained part of it through negotiation Neville Chamberlain, Prime Minister of Britain, pushed the policy of appeasement (giving concessions in order to prevent war Gave Germany the Sudetenland, a part of Czechoslovakia that bordered Germany and had a large population of German speakers
