4
Intro must be- Efficient and effective 3 min = 30 sec 10 min= 1 min
5
Attention Getters- Needed!! People ARE distracted!
6
Don’t do these “Ok, ah…” Apologizing or making excuses at the beginning of the speech for not being prepared Beginning a speech with “Hello, my speech is on” Saying “In conclusion” Ending a speech with “thank you”
7
Connecting w/Audience
How do you connect w/an audience when starting a speech?
8
Think about Proximity-
Proximity- degree to which the information affects our listeners directly. Pooing at public places Light pollution (I cant really help sea turtles) Cultural awareness- tied in America First, Taskforce Extremism- Tied in America First, Taskforce Breakfast debate waffles vs pancake Breast feeding in public

Story/Anecdote Use story from your life or others.
On our annual family road trip to Utah, I found myself in a very compromising predicament… I had to poop. We drove several miles before coming upon a gas station where my father gave me two options: go here or hold it. The only problem is that going in a gas station means taking that awkward walk of shame to the restroom where everyone knows exactly what you’re doing. I actually tried to avoid pooping because I was scared of what others would think of me! As with most problems in life, I turned to Frozen for sage advice, specifically Elsa’s anthem “Let it go, let it go, can’t hold it back anymore. Let it go, let it go, turn away and slam the door.”

A few hours north of here, in the small town of Decorah, Amy and Lane run a small business that offers internet service to their community. They were the very first company to provide broadband access in their remote corner of northeastern Iowa, and every day, hundreds of people count on the services they provide to do their jobs and live their lives. But today they are on the brink of bankruptcy – a bankruptcy that has nothing to do with any poor business decision they made or slump in the economy they weren't prepared for. Lane was diagnosed with cancer when he was twenty-one years old. He lost a lung, a leg bone and part of a hip. Seventeen years later, he is cancer-free, but the cost of health insurance for him, his wife and his three kids is now over $1,000 per month. Their family's premiums keep rising hundreds of dollars every year, and as hard as they look, they simply cannot find another provider that will insure them. Amy and Lane are now paying forty percent of their annual income in health care premiums. They have no retirement plan and nothing saved. They can no longer afford to buy new clothes or fill up their cars with gas, they have racked up more credit card debt then they know what to do with, and Amy wrote to us and said that the day she heard the loan officer say the word "bankruptcy" was one of the worst in her life. "My heart was in pain," she said. "This is not who we are. We have done everything right. We have done everything we were supposed to do. This is not who we are." Amy Chicos is right. This is not who we are. We are not a country that rewards hard work and perseverance with bankruptcies and foreclosures. We are not a country that allows major challenges to go unsolved and unaddressed while our people suffer needlessly. In the richest nation on Earth, it is simply not right that the skyrocketing profits of the drug and insurance industries are paid for by the skyrocketing premiums that come from the pockets of the American people. If you’ve talked breakfast foods with anyone before, which I hope you have, because breakfast is spectacular, you know what the deal is. We’ve been there before: it’s all about waffles vs. pancakes. That’s it. The pancake lovers chime in with their claims of a fluffier, floppier, softer, and spongier entrée, while the waffle addicts profess their undying commitment to a crisper breakfast item, constructed with little troughs to hold that maple syrup deliciousness. Even Waffle House, a popular breakfast restaurant featuring the crisp morning cake, has publicly called pancakes the enemy. The enemy, people! We are living in an era of division, and the debate must be settled. But, as with any debate, it must be done the right way. Our arguments need to be concise and legitimate, and we must avoid flaws in logic. We need to become versed in the art of argumentation

Startling Statistic or Statement
Every 4 hrs, a sexual assault or rape occurs in the US military. This is an 8% increase over last year. Jessie is a normal three-year-old child except for one thing—she is a victim of child abuse. She has already been hospitalized with broken bones four times in her short life.
13
Rhetorical Question- What do Albert Einstein, Cher and Tom Cruise have in common? They have all overcome dyslexia, a learning disability that interferes with the ability to read. Think Geico What it is
14
Question- Avoid- they do not allow for much expansion for beginners.
Are redheads endanger of becoming extinct?
15
Humor- Funny story or happening. Possible joke…

Keilly Gunther I absolutely HATE Christmas. Most people enjoy Christmas by sitting around the tree, opening gifts with their family. But my family is a little bit different. Ya wanna know why? Because instead of opening gifts, my family sits in a circle and passes around my grandma's urn. And for those of you who recall, my family also passes around my grandma’s ashes on Thanksgiving. Apparently, every holiday was invented to remember my grandma’s death. But seriously, there has to be a better option than passing around grandma’s ashes at every single family gathering. After doing some soul searching on the internet, I found just the solution. Say goodbye to conventional cremation and say hello to “Death Diamonds”. Death Diamonds are produced by taking human ashes, applying heat and pressure and wahla! Now you have your death diamonds. From there, the gem can adorn jewelry such as earring, tongue rings, and wedding bands! Now your deceased relative can be a part of your wedding day! As time has evolved, the options of what we do with our bodies once we die has changed drastically. No longer do we live in a world where we mummify our dead as the ancient Egyptians once did. Instead, we embalm, cremate, and even make diamonds out of our deceased. But what does the future of dead bodies look like? Will the acts of embalming and cremation become a dying art? Well today, we will answer these questions and explore our options.

When addressing my pilgrimage to my ancestral land of Westport, Ireland - you may think that my worldview was expanded by the 22 mile family hike through the Irish countryside or the fireside chats with the 98 year old farmer and his dog or by listening to my grandfather tell stories of where our family came from and how they made a life for themselves. But, no, it was through endless nights of pub hopping with my gramma. I’m dead serious. After bursting into my room and interrupting my peaceful night of watching Britain’s Got Talent she dragged me through eight different Westport pubs in the span of 4 hours. Through the first couple, I absolutely did not want to be there. But, after experiencing the joy, community, and culture that existed in these societal enclaves I was thankful that my gramma dragged me out of the hotel that night. But, sadly, not everyone is able to grow up with a gramma who will force you to pub crawl in a foreign country which leaves us with the issue - many Americans are missing out on eye opening and formative experiences, leaving them with incredibly narrow world views. First, we’ll turn off Britain’s Got Talent and address the issues created by narrow worldviews, then we’ll hit the streets with gramma to find the cause, and finally we’ll look at how we view the world as we find the solutions.

Simile or Metaphor- Comparing two things Movies are great!
In the film Find Nemo, Nemo’s dad- Marlin worried constantly about his son and became helicopter parent. We would like to think this phenomenon is isolated to fish bowls. Unfortunately, the number of helicopter parents is drastically increasing.
22
Ineffective Intros So yeah my speech….
I am going to tell you about. . . I am going to give a speech about. . . This speech is about. . . My speech is on… So…. Who is Earl Dibbles Jr.? He is….
