BG Student Advice 06/11/2018 2018/19 Eligibility for Student Finance Students applying for Undergraduate & PGCE student finance must: Normally live in UK for 3 years before start of the course and be a UK National (or have settled status) Not be proposing to study for an equivalent or lower qualification than one you already hold Be studying a designated full-time or part-time undergraduate or initial teacher training programme (e.g. PGCE) Not have arrears owing to the Student Loans Company (No change to rights and status of EU nationals for funding in 2018/19) 3 years before start of course (Home/EU) 5 years before start of course (EU nationals living in the UK applying for living cost support) Start of course = 1st September

BG Student Advice 06/11/2018 2018/19 Supporting an Application – Parents/Partners For undergraduate/PGCE programmes, an income-assessed application ensures maximum financial support If you’re the parent of a student and live with your partner, they’ll also have to provide details of their taxable income and National Insurance Number. Taxable earned income includes*: wages, salaries, tips, and other taxable employee pay long-term disability benefits received prior to minimum retirement age net earnings from self-employment Taxable unearned income includes*: interest from savings (only the annual summary is required) benefits and pensions rent from property or a room *More details/information can be found on the HMRC website: 3 years before start of course (Home/EU) 5 years before start of course (EU nationals living in the UK applying for living cost support) Start of course = 1st September

15 Repayments Interest: Undergraduate and PGCE: Salary Interest payable
Up to £25,000 inclusive Inflation (RPI) Over £25,000 up to £41,000 Inflation (RPI) + up to 3% £41,000 and over Inflation (RPI) + 3% While studying, interest is applied at inflation (RPI) + 3% until the April after the student leaves their course. For Postgraduate Loans, interest is applied at inflation (RPI) + 3% at all times.

16 Repayments Loan Write Off
Any amount of student loan not paid off after the 30 year repayment period ends is written off In the long term, unrepaid loans can be viewed as becoming grants The loan system is designed so that higher earning graduates subsidise lower earning graduates The write off does not apply to arrears

BG Student Advice 06/11/2018 2017/18 Supplementary Grant Support The following Grants are available for Full-time students and are income-assessed: Parent’s Learning Allowance (up to £1,669) Adult Dependant’s Grant (up to £2,925) Childcare Grant (85% of registered childcare costs subject to max. grant of £ per week for one child or £ per week for two or more children)
