5 Critical Infrastructure Defined
Physical and virtual systems and assets Incapacity or destruction has debilitating impact on security, economic, public health, environment Systems and assets cross federal, state, and local jurisdictions Majority systems and assets privately owned (Photos: DHS-FEMA) Hurricane Andrew, Fla., August 24, Many houses, businesses and personal effects suffered extensive damage from one of the most destructive hurricanes ever recorded in America. One million people were evacuated and 54 died in this hurricane. FEMA News Photo, Calexico, Calif., June 15, The All American Canal is an engineering marvel as it harnesses the Colorado river and disperses it throughout irrigation canals, while the system feeds agricultural production throughout Imperial County. After a 7.2 earthquake struck the canal, FEMA is inspecting the structures for cracks and potential threats to the community. Adam DuBrowa/FEMA,
