4 National Housing Strategy
Vision: Canadians have housing that meets their needs and they can afford. Affordable housing is a cornerstone of sustainable, inclusive communities and a Canadian economy where we can prosper and thrive. A human rights-based approach Co-investment fund – partnership with governments, private sector, non- profits and communities More shelter spaces for survivors of violence Transitional and supportive housing for those in need New and repaired affordable and community housing Help to make homeownership more affordable for modest income earners Target of 2,400 new affordable housing units for people with developmental disabilities Canada Housing Benefit

5 Principles for Inclusive Housing Investments
Only options that ensure affordability, adequacy and suitability while supporting independence and inclusion in the community. Social inclusion lens must be applied to all NHS investments – no investment in congregate disability-based options; must enable affordability and access to housing markets like all other Canadians. Transfers for housing and disability-related supports must enable individuals to direct housing choices and support options. Secure, adequate and affordable housing is the foundation – flexible supports and community connections for safety and inclusion are essential to make a home and good life possible for people with intellectual disabilities. Coordinated, community-based leadership is essential to transforming existing residential and service provision to enable housing affordability, choice and opportunity in safe, supportive and inclusive communities

7 Development strategies
Knowledge-sharing tools local-PT ACLs have the tools they need to transform current housing and service delivery, and so that with self-advocates and families they can provide needed community leadership Financing tools assist individuals, families and organizations in establishing needed financial arrangements (depending on the development pathway) Design and development of partnership models templates and examples for inclusive approaches Policy enablers to create an environment for responding to inclusive affordable housing demand Mobilizing community capacity to unbundle and individualize personal supports so that individuals can live more independently in the community, and to create safety and inclusion networks with the skills and understanding needed to identify and respond to social and economic vulnerability of this group.
