Deploying the Aorfix AUI Converter

Appearance of AUI Converter
Converter has one length, 72mm overall. The ‘Aortic’ part is 40mm long The ‘Aortic’ part of the shortest Aorfix is 56mm long The Converter is designed to fit on the flow divider of the Aorfix The Converter has a ‘fish mouth’ which should have the same orientation as the primary graft.

RO Markers There are several RO markers on the devices to aid placement. The primary ones for placing the Converter are: The top of the cannulation socket of the primary graft has an RO ring around it. It marks the level of the flow divider. The top of the leg of the Converter also has an RO ring around it.

Deployment The Converter uses the same delivery system as the primary graft. It is inserted over a stiff wire, (Lunderquist is preferred) up the ipsilateral leg of the primary graft. The RO marker at the top of the socket of the primary graft should be identified and the RO marker at the top of the leg in the delivery system.

Deployment Contd. Align the RO marker at the top of the Converter’s leg with the RO marker at the top of the contralateral socket of the primary graft. Ensure that the fishmouth at the top of the Converter is aligned with the fishmouth at the top of the primary graft. Deploy the converter following the instructions to deploy the primary graft: Wind back the sheath control of the Converter delivery system (about 12 clicks) until it has come to the end of its travel (a stiffer click and the pins on the control project from the control) N.B. Do not operate the push rod control Pull back the sheath Release the push rod control (6 counter clockwise turns and pull back) Balloon the converter once in place

The Only Watch Out If the primary graft has been compressed axially, the top of the Converter may lie slightly above the top of the graft. If this is suspect, the converter can be deployed slightly lower in the primary graft ie the RO marker on the leg of the converter can be placed 5mm to 7mm below the marker on the contralateral socket. The converter is 16mm shorter than the shortest body; this adjustment can place the Converter 21 to23mm below the top of the primary graft.
