Introduction to one drive For business
OneDrive for business is provided by the University of all faculty, staff, and students. OneDrive offers terabytes of space to all of our users. It has a desktop folder component that looks and functions just like Dropbox. All of your files and folders in OneDrive can be shared with any faculty, staff, or student. One Drive can be used anywhere with no need to connect to campus (unlike Timmy/Sammy).

Questions! 1. Can you save documents directly to a shared folder? If so, how? Yes! Anything created in an Office product can be saved directly to your one drive. For items not made in MS Office products you can install the desktop version of OneDrive for Business and save them into that folder (Just like dropbox) 2. Easier access to OneDrive and shared folders than Install the desktop folder access application – just like Dropbox 3. Can our off campus clinical sites have access to the shared folders? If not, is that ability coming soon Provided that they have UNCW accounts, yes. You can access one drive and all other Office 365 features from anywhere. If these users do not have UNCW accounts, they will not be able to access your One Drive files.

Questions! 4. How do you move large folders from Drop Box to OneDrive? The drag and drop should work if you are using the desktop version of One Drive for Business. There are some limitations, however – No files over 2gb and no more than 20,000 individual files. Since you would be transferring from one cloud service to another, you may need to go from Dropbox to your hard drive first. 5. If we are using it for the program, can students create a OneDrive folder and share it with us to create a program portfolio with their proficiencies? Can we organize our “shared with me folder?” Yes, but you must have “Can Edit” Permissions. 6. Would it be easier to get a program account like so the three of us can manage it better? Not exactly. This account would be a shared mailbox or and MEPF and would not have it’s own One Drive account. You would need to have someone designated to host X content and then they would need to share it manually with the rest of those who need access.
