4 GDWG ToR Updates (approved at GSICS-EP-18 in 2017)

5 New parts in BLUE Updated GDWG ToR Due to the technical nature of WG’s discussions, members are expected to have the following skills Software Development Life Cycle Data formats ideally used for the dissemination of satellite data Meta-data and software coding guidelines, conventions and standards Expected contribution to GDWG activities GDWG member At the level of at least 1 man-month / year contribution. This does NOT include development/operation of agreed GSICS related systems GSICS member organizations Expected to commit additional resources for GDWG related systems to ensure developments are realized and systems operate at an acceptable level of service

6 Updated GDWG ToR GDWG shall: New parts in BLUE
[Old] Develop specifications for GSICS product catalogues, data archive systems and data servers in support of GCC [New] Support the specification of GSICS systems administered by the GCC; GSICS product catalogue, GSICS User Messaging Service, GSICS Wiki, etc. [Old] Coordinate the development and evolution of GSICS software Systems [New] Support the specification of GSICS systems and tools administered by the GSICS member and observer organizations

7 GDWG Chairing Two Co-Chairs since Feb. 2015
Peter Miu (EUMETSAT) and Masaya Takahashi (JMA) Nominal 3-year term over Reformatting of GDWG chairing was discussed at GSICS-EP-18 New GDWG Chairing: approved at GSICS-EP-18 One Chair: Masaya Takahashi Two Vice-Chairs: Ashim Mitra (IMD, incoming chair) and Peter Miu (outgoing chair) Election of the Chair: based on nominations by GDWG members By GDWG majority decision, a recommendation for the Chair is submitted to GSICS-EP for confirmation

8 GDWG Notable Actions GDWG Fact Sheet Big problem in GDWG: limited resources at the level of agency/WG GDWG activities: not adequately supported by CGMS agencies 2-page GDWG fact sheet: developed at GSICS-EP-18 to emphasize the benefits of GDWG for EACH AGENCY Who are the members of GDWG? Why invest in the work done by GDWG? Emphasizing the importance of GDWG activities by showing GDWG achievements such as GSICS Collaboration Server, Products’ Convention to follow WMO filenaming and netCDF CF Convention Asking each agency to provide resources for GDWG collaborative activities

9 Updates of GDWG ToR

10 GSICS Collaboration Servers
GDWG Notable Actions GSICS Collaboration Servers 3 Collaboration Servers (THREDDS) at CMA/EUM/NOAA KMA/JMA have been sending their GSICS Products to EUM EUM created new directories for storing JMA/KMA GEO-LEO-IR Preservation of GSICS Products Operational Phase products (SEVIRI-IASI IR) A way to actively “get” products will be used to overcome security constraints CMA/NOAA created scripts to download the products from Collaboration Servers Communication w/ ISRO ISRO launched THREDDS server which stores their GSICS Products 4th Collaboration Server in GSICS? Need for the communication

11 Use of GitHub for Collaborative Work
GDWG Notable Actions Use of GitHub for Collaborative Work GDWG GitHub repository: created by KMA in 2017 To collaboratively maintain/develop GDWG relevant tools/software GSICS Plotting Tool Project on GitHub GSICS Plotting Tool: developed at EUMETSAT Easy comparison among multiple products, but only GEO/LEO-LEO-IR are supported Requirements for supporting GEO/LEO-LEO-VNIR have been discussed KMA setup a project to support the new products in collaboration with GDWG members How to actually work on that? To be discussed on Day-3! MSG-3/SEVIRI IR10.8 MSG-4/SEVIRI IR10.8 Himawari-8/AHI B13 (10.4 μm)

12 Instrument Events Logging
GDWG Notable Actions Instrument Events Logging CGMS Task Team on Calibration Events Logging Lead by Rob Roebeling (EUM), mainly composed of GDWG members Goal: to develop a uniform approach for presenting, logging, and monitoring calibration information across satellite operators A white paper was submitted to CGMS-45 (June 2017) 1st step: to create stable “Landing Pages” linked from WMO/OSCAR How to get more traffic from WMO/OSCAR? To be discussed on Day-4 2nd step: to adopt nomenclature and standards for instrument events Establishing a sub-working group with technical and database experts would be required – to be discussed on Day-4

13 Landing Page at EUMETSAT
Meteosat-10/SEVIRI Landing Page at EUMETSAT Hyperlink to Satellite Operator’s Landing Page

14 Instrument Events Logging
GDWG Notable Actions Instrument Events Logging CGMS Task Team on Calibration Events Logging Lead by Rob Roebeling (EUM), mainly composed of GDWG members Goal: to develop a uniform approach for presenting, logging, and monitoring calibration information across satellite operators A white paper was submitted to CGMS-45 (June 2017) 1st step: to create stable “Landing Pages” linked from WMO/OSCAR How to get more traffic from WMO/OSCAR? To be discussed on Day-4 2nd step: to adopt nomenclature and standards for instrument events, and develop common DB among space agencies Establishing a sub-working group with technical and database experts would be required – to be discussed on Day-4

15 Action Tracking GSICS actions have been tracked on the Wiki
Improving the usability of the tracking page was discussed at 2016 Annual Meeting. Manik Bali (GCC+NOAA GDWG) has been developing/updating new Action Tracking Tool
