PLUG & PLAY COMMUNICATIONS
Strategy & Vision Intelligent network Solutions Provider focussed on solving Customer data explosion, cost, & mobility challenges Efficient Scalable Always-On Avaya’s vision for the Enterprise – “Plug & Play Communications” – calls for a new level of synergy between People, the collaborative real-time Applications that they use, and the underlying, enabling Network. The goal is to deliver a consistent Enterprise-class experience, one that supports context-aware collaboration that is always-on, simplified and virtualised. A key building block for this vision is the foundational network. As real-time communications continue the evolution to IP the data network becomes totally integrated into the delivery of Communications-enabled Business Services, in addition to transporting non-real-time critical business applications. To be completely successful, the network must operate with three imperative characteristics. Let’s look how Avaya uniquely addresses these… PLUG & PLAY COMMUNICATIONS The 3 Network Imperatives for Plug & Play Communications 3

Avaya Always-On Networking
Industry-leading resiliency & availability Sub-second failover delivers application survivability, including Voice & multi-media Consistent network model regardless of size or budget Embedded guard rails to minimise human-error outages In-service maintenance & repair Avaya’s Dependable Networking The bedrock of our Dependable Networking is delivering genuine mission-critical reliability – the sort of reliability that you need when the success of your core business is directly linked to the availability of information resources and applications. Avaya pioneered a technology and architecture called, “switch clustering” that essentially virtualizes the network core and provides the most effective resiliency model in the market. Sub-Second Failover is a key benefit of this design and ensures that user sessions do not fail and applications do not hang. The next key aspect is that we deliver solutions that scale across the breadth of the Enterprise environment, and this ensures that the same consistent level of service can be delivered to the Branch as well as the Head Office; it’s no longer a case of compromising either on service or value, or both. We’ve also spent considerable effort to engineer safety mechanisms in to our products to provide automatic protection against outages caused mis-configuration; a surprisingly major contributor to the total number of outages experienced by Enterprises… And finally a major focus for us is to provide opportunities for in-service maintenance and repair, and zero-down-time servicing; appreciating that changes windows are becoming increasingly scarce and precious. Rock solid dependability is imperative, but only partially impressive if not married with efficiency, which we’ll look at next. “Having such a highly-resilient voice and data platform means I no longer need to focus my IT resources on fire fighting network issues but can concentrate instead on delivering the strategic IT projects that will help grow the Group’s bottom line.”

Avaya Efficient Networking
Active-Active: all resources available & utilized Optimized designs: buy only what you need Lower power consumption: savings from Data Center to Desktop Consolidation of Voice & Data services Superior TCO: Reduced equipment procurement & operating costs Avaya’s Efficient Networking One of the powerful benefits of Avaya’s Switch Clustering is that it offers a network state, called, “Active-Active”, that delivers a significant efficiency advantage relative to every other Vendor. Our innovative technology allows us to make every network resource concurrently available and user sessions are automatically load-shared; no expensive connections remain idle for the 1% of the time that they might be needed… In much the same way that a good business is run just this side of ‘lean and mean’ the network also benefits from avoiding any temptation to over-engineer – keeping the designs simple saves money, improves stability, and reduces time-to-diagnose & repair. Our proven Industry-leading energy-efficiency delivers immediate operations savings by reducing the amount of power that is used to directly run a given set of equipment, and also indirectly due to the savings realized for reduced cooling requirements. Where is makes sense, for example in the Branch Office and the Data Center, we’re consolidating services. The Secure Router 4134 is a good example of where we have integrated a Microsoft OCS Mediation Server, and recently also the Unified Communication suite from SCS, a full featured software-based communication system. The Secure router 2330 features an integrated Survivable SIP Gateway for the Branch. This all plays to the message of reducing the total number of devices required, and improving the overall efficiency of the total solution. Our unique approach to networking enables us to deliver solutions that require fewer devices, yet provide consistently higher levels of reliability, performance, and efficiency. The most obvious advantage of a reduced hardware footprint – a simpler more streamlined network – is a saving on Capital costs; however what should not be ignored is the corresponding knock-on effects of reduced operational costs. And to round-out the trifecta … “We chose Avaya because it could deliver a solution that was technologically superior, higher in performance and simply more cost-effective than anything offered by its competitors.”

Avaya Scalable Networking
Highly-effective Clustering dramatically increases capacity & reduces complexity Pioneering next generation Stacking, Wireless, & Data Center scalability Future-ready architectures Increased focus on Software-based & Virtualized delivery Open design philosophy to ensure flexible interoperability Avaya’s Scalable Networking Another aspect to Clustering – apart from resiliency and efficiency – is the fact that it enhances scalability: quite simply a virtualized multi-device platform provides higher levels of capacity and throughput than an equivalent number of basic devices that just connected together. Clustering adds flexibility and scalability options that minimise network disruption, delivering the optimised solution for network growth. Avaya currently utilizes Clustering as part of our Ethernet Switching, Wireless Networking, and Access Control solutions. Avaya has a proud history of innovation; Switch Clustering and Appliance Clustering are two obvious examples. We continue this tradition with ongoing development of the technology necessary to deliver genuine cost-effective scalability: Stacking architectures that scale beyond 1Tbps and deliver a fully-resilient low-touch hot-swap capability, the Split-Plane concept for optimization of next-generation Wireless – delivering on the scalability potential of n, and the all-important evolution within the Data Center where capacity will need to be able to scale to previously unimagined levels. The key to delivering true Enterprise-class scalability is to have the foresight to build in future-readiness; no individual product can ever be cost-effectively future-proofed, but a high degree of future-readiness will prolong the useful life and avoid costly and untimely additional upgrade cycles. Increasingly we are moving more and more of the specialised functionality away from separate, dedicated platforms and onto what are becoming multi-purpose hosts and as virtualized services running on generic server platforms. This improves the efficiency and scalability (and stability) of the network by having common processes more tightly integrated, and not requiring multiple systems to be interconnected and interoperable. There’s also the added benefit of reducing the hardware footprint and bill; new implementations are now simply software upgrades which can be loaded onto a generic platform and the cost of premium mission-specific hardware is avoided. And finally our open and Standards-based approach to interoperability ensures a flexible, versatile, and adaptable networking infrastructure that can easily accommodate a dynamic business environment. We’re now going to have a detail look at a couple of networking examples to demonstrate our clear TCO advantage… “With Avaya I can spend the same amount, or less, but get better performance on a network that is easier to manage and maintain. Avaya is definitely the best bang for the buck.”

And Now for the Bottom Line
5-Year cost comparison of Avaya & Cisco Systems provides telling results Cisco premium can be over 100% Up-front CAPEX is the largest cost comparison component Maintenance and support is not insignificant Power consumption is becoming a consideration And Now for The Bottom Line Avaya commissioned independent research to determine the extent of our cost-effective value proposition; covering a series of Campus LAN and Branch Office WAN scenarios, ranging from small through to large. The results are stark: taking into consideration the costs typically associated with deploying and operating a network (including purchasing, maintenance, and operations) Avaya consistently delivers exceptional value when compared side-by-side to our main rival. The Avaya advantage ranges from 43% for a large Campus LAN (and 37% for a mid-sized LAN) to 50% for a Branch Office WAN environment. Further savings will also be realised by virtue of Avaya’s proven energy-efficiency advantage which has been measured at up to 40% across the full range of products and devices, from Data Center through to Desktop. 3,000 User Campus LAN Cost Comparison

2nd Generation Energy-Efficiency
Efficient by Design Reducing Campus layers & devices; less equipment translates into reduced consumption Optimized power consumption Drives immediate operational savings – up to 40% more efficient than rivals Service integration & device consolidation Reduces equipment levels, optimizes performance, & also streamlines management High-priority Phones remain available Energy Saver Low-priority Phones set to power-off mode PC connections set to power-save mode ES-enabled Switch Energy-Efficient Networking Nortel continues to drive energy efficiency and in order to deliver important cost-of-ownership advantages to our Customers. ENS product design allows Enterprises to build networks that are inherently more efficient and effective through pioneering technology and techniques, energy-efficient hardware, and innovative features – all of which converge to create a truly efficient Enterprise-class network, one that minimizes capital equipment and costs, optimizes all available resources, and reduces operational burden and expense. Efficiency by Design – Reducing Campus layers & devices; less equipment translates into reduced consumption Nortel’s ERS products provide solutions for both the 2-Tier and 3-Tier design alternatives. However, Nortel’s unique feature set allows network architects to implement the first option with routing centralised in the core, and a simplified edge. This translates into the lower cost of ownership (TCO) – fewer and lower cost Access Switches, together with less configuration and management complexity – without sacrificing any other design requirements of the modern Converged Campus network. Technically-speaking: Currently, there are two major architectural options for building Converged Campus LANs – the 2-Tier design, in which Wiring Closet Switches terminate directly into Core Switches, and 3-Tier design option where Access Switches are aggregated through intermediate Distribution Switches (which in turn terminate on the Core). When utilising the unique feature set available in Nortel’s ERS products, which includes Split Multi-Link Trunking (SMLT), Routed Split Multi-Link Trunking (RSMLT) and/or VRRP active-active Backup Master, a 3-Tier architecture is not required and is not normally implemented. It can be used of course, for example in cases where the existing fibre cabling plant can not easily support a 2-Tier design. Optimised power consumption – Drives immediate operational savings – up to 40% more efficient than rivals Reducing the costs associated with energy consumption is an objective on the agenda for many businesses. Whilst the per-unit costs vary – seemingly at the whim of OPEC and the energy suppliers – there remains an overriding desire to reduce consumption, particularly in light of the fact that more and more business processes are being ‘electrified’. Significant reductions in consumption has the additional knock-on advantage of lowering a company’s carbon footprint, however the primary goal will always be to reduce costs. This is an area where Nortel has a proven and significant energy efficiency advantage; ERS up to 40% & Secure Routers up to 29% lower power consumption then rivals. There are a whole series of Tolly and other 3rd Party reports available proving that the vast majority of Nortel products consume significantly less power than equivalent products from the likes of Cisco and HP ProCurve. And this advantage spans the entire infrastructure; not just individual products – Data Centre to Desktop – a where virtually model from every portfolio, ensuring that the difference in the total network consumption profiles is pronounced. Technically-speaking: an example Ethernet Routing Switch leverages a number of hardware and software features to deliver optimum energy efficiency. To begin with, the majority of our Switches utilise highly-efficient merchant silicon; years of experience and development ensure that these exhibit the best energy and heat management properties, and coupled with low-loss power supplies the underlying hardware is highly energy-efficient. Nortel’s additional value-add comes in the intelligent usage of power within the device and also for external purposes such as Power-over-Ethernet. Nortel is introducing a feature to be known as ‘Nortel Energy Saver’ which will enable network managers to operate their network at reduced power levels during those times when it is typically idle; for example after-hours and over weekends. NES will have both highly granular configuration and ‘one-click’ options and will extend to enabling low-priority IP Phones to be powered-down during these eco-mode periods. Service integration & device consolidation – Reduces equipment levels, optimises performance, and also streamlines management Consolidate branch networking functions into fewer integrated devices to reduce network complexity and streamline capital and operational costs. Technically-speaking: a good example of effective device consolidation is the Nortel Secure Router 4134, a modular, multi-service platform that integrates multiple networking functions, including routing, WAN, Ethernet switching, security and Voice over IP (VoIP) into a single device. The platform's design ensures the consistently high throughput required by voice, data or unified communications applications. The first device of its kind to feature embedded Microsoft intelligence to simplify deployment of unified communications, the Secure Router 4134 can reduce the number of devices needed at the Branch or Regional site, generating substantial operational and capital cost savings for your business. Proof-Points: Multivendor – Developing relationships and capabilities with the building management industry to build a real-time, fact-driven holistic capability around the reduction in energy consumption. Efficiency – More intelligent design, using less & less complex equipment, an extremely energy-efficient suite of products, new capabilities to save even more energy during ‘quiet times’. Fully granular or ‘one-click’ configuration Enterprise LAN Network stays available, simply in ‘eco-mode’ Detailed views of consumption & savings Enterprise Policy Manager Network-wide energy policies & reporting

Wireless LAN Architectures - Innovation
Laptop Disparate Networks Wired & Wireless Centralized Architecture Thin Access Points Centralized dual-function Wireless Controller Control Point (control traffic) Switching Point (data traffic) Challenges Inefficiencies Hardware non-optimized Limitations in scalability Phone PDA Phone Split-Plane Wireless Classic Wireless Efficiency of Split-Plane ‘Ideal’ Efficiency Decoupling Wireless & Wired In the Wireless networks that are currently being deployed, the functions of the Control Plane and the Data Plane are directly coupled and accommodated in a single piece of hardware: the Wireless Controller appliance, or occasionally as a Service Module for Chassis-based solutions. The main limitation with this architecture is how to effectively scale capacity to handle the growing performance demands as more-and-more traffic migrates from Wired to Wireless transport. The evolution of the radio side, with emerging n technology, will only exacerbate this issue. In Nortel’s innovative second generation architecture, we’ve split these functions with the Wireless Control functionality being decoupled from application data. The Wireless Control Point (the Control Plane) can be implemented on dedicated hardware (a high-performance Appliance), or as a service running in a virtual server environment (i.e. VMware). The application traffic (the Data Plane) does not need to follow the same path as the Wireless control traffic, meaning that performance is immediately improved, as is resiliency for the entire solution and the ability to easily scale network capacity with this being linked to the ability of Wireless Controllers. Another more compelling aspect of this innovation is that, once the functions are separated, the Wireless Control Point – with its memory-intensive, transaction-based requirement – is something that easily leads itself to Virtualization: running on a Virtual Server rather dedicated network hardware. In fact our demonstration network has done just that; we have the Wireless Control Plane running on a VMware Server. For the Data Plane – the Wireless Switching Point – implementation would typically be via a dedicated hardware appliance. However for those Customers that are also using Nortel’s LAN Switching products, the value is even more pronounced as the Wireless Switching Point can be implemented – as a software function – Nortel’s Wireless-enabled Core or Access Switches, eliminating the need to procure additional hardware as Wireless traffic grows. Performance optimization – Traffic no longer needs to terminate on Wireless Controllers Unlike traditional architectures, Split-Plane divides and conquers. Application traffic takes the most optimal, highly resilient, high-capacity path directly from source to destination (Client to Server, and visa versa) while the Wireless Control overhead takes a different path to the Wireless Control Point. This innovation leverages the highly-scalable performance capacity inherent with modern LAN architectures, and avoids the performance bottleneck inherent with traditional Wireless Controllers. Significantly the Wireless Switching Point function will be evolving to Software-based functionality delivered in Nortel’s next-generation Core and Access LAN Switches; further optimising the performance by removing the throttling associated with traditional Services Hardware/Appliance-based solutions. Improved resiliency – Wireless Controllers virtualised and availability is protected In addition to the Data Plane natively leveraging the high-availability delivered by Nortel’s Switch Cluster/Stackable Chassis design, the Split Plane innovative allows the Control Plane to now leverage specific high-availability techniques. Key to this will be the virtualisation of the functionality – removing specific hardware dependencies – and hosting these on Virtualise Servers. This automatically delivers best-in-class application resiliency and allows for highly flexible deployment scenarios. Seamlessly scalability – Control and Data Planes scale independently and at different rates Importantly, from a continuity of service perspective, a Split-Plane architecture greatly simplifies the re-engineering work required as capacity needs to be scaled. As capacity requirements are driven higher (and n is seen as a major driver here), the actual capacity for Data and Control traffic scales at very different rates. Split-Plane clearly facilitates fully independent scaling for both aspects and makes this activity risk-free. Reduces costs – Wireless Controllers become virtual applications – not Appliances - & scalability is not linked to hardware And following-on from the engineering considerations for scaling capacity, the costs associated with these evolutionary changes are also able to be controlled along different scales, timelines, and trajectories. Virtualisation of the Wireless Control Point permits excellent synergies and cost-containment, and remains all of the cost overheads associated with traditional Hardware/Appliance-based solutions. Proof-Points: Resiliency – Data enjoys enhanced reliability by removing Hardware-based Wireless Appliances, and Wireless functionality is ported to Software-based and/or Virtualised Services. Efficiency – Streamlines design and operations by having Wireless Control & Wireless Switching as a distinct functions, managed independently Performance – Data forwarding is fully optimised – on the fast path, Client directly to Server – and Wireless Control is handled more effectively (without the Data-handling requirement) and built on optimised VMware platforms. Security – Not applicable (there is no special Security considerations with Split-Plane, over-and-above what is normally delivered by our Enterprise-class WLAN solution). Scalability Actual Efficiency Wireless Controller Bottle-neck & Single point-of-failure… Cost

We currently offer an Appliance-based solution – Secure Network Access – that is optimised for Avaya’s LAN products (the Ethernet Routing Switches) and also a suite of software-based products – Identity Engines –which has been built from the ground-up as an open and fully interoperable solution based on the Standard 802.1X protocol. An advantage of ID Engines is that, in addition to following the trend from proprietary to open solutions, it also parallels the transition from hardware to software – and virtualised – delivery. Further Background: Avaya delivers proven security solutions including a second-generation network access control solution, with Standards-based support that allows Enterprises to not only securely control who uses the network, but where, when, how and with what type of device. The Avaya NAC portfolio is about providing a wide range of role-based access options that enhance the security of your network, including a Standards-based solution that integrates with existing network infrastructure, and leverages investment. It centralizes, and thus simplifies, policy decision-making throughout your network, then expresses policies in simple language, removing technology from the equation. Improve security with fully granular control – Role-based access control & compartmentalization of the network The key is to access control is in providing only as much access as each user requires, to ensure that user devices are healthy and in compliance with the chosen security policy, and to provide that access in real time. Avaya’s solutions facilitate effective NAC by creating a simple-to-deploy multi-dimensional access policy; security is enhanced by the granular nature of access control flexibility. Reduced costs – Supporting existing infrastructure & identity stores, virtual appliance option Avaya’s solutions allow networks to leverage their existing investment, saving costs and enable additional deployment flexibility. Providing a consistent, centralized access policy eliminates the potential for administrative errors. By putting user information and policy in a single location, policies can be created on a full network-wide basis, supporting LAN, WLAN and VPN consistently. Solutions such as Identity Engines are easy to deploy, connecting with existing identity system and switching infrastructure. It provides a central policy decision point that streamlines access management, improves security and satisfies reporting requirements. It connects to complex store environments and offers centralized editing of network access policies. It’s also a virtualized solution; no new hardware is required, especially as many organizations have already invested in VMware environments. Simplicity – Centralized policy decision, defined in plain language Avaya’s NAC solutions are easy to deploy, residing in the Data Centre, providing centralized authentication and authorization for wired, wireless and VPN network devices. They provide centralized integrated security services for Avaya and also third-party Ethernet switching, WLAN and VPN products. And what clearly separates the Identity Engines solution from rivals is its ability to express policies in plain language. Enhanced Regulatory compliance – Partitioning of access, & comprehensive reporting & analytics Many environments are now seeking to apply strict governance to information access, and this can only be enforced and demonstrated through intelligent effective NAC. Avaya’s solutions provide the powerful reporting that allows operators to perform in-depth analysis of network activity including ingress and usage. Reporting data is provided by the Avaya Identity Engines Ignition Server, and Ignition Analytics allows for automated data retrieval and report generation. - Which customer doesn’t have a GUEST access requirement for boardrooms and visitors? Who doesn’t need or want to control access to the network, being wired or wireless? Who doesn’t need a platform to track or control assets accessing the network ? What if we provided a multi-vendor solution for medical devices access and tracking ? (Well we do…) Unified Communications Management Avaya has recently undertaken a complete refresh of the Management applications to deliver a versatile solution that allows Customers to selectively implement those components that are relevant to their specific environment. From a common base, different task-specific modules are added to enhance overall capability and productivity; a key aspect being the common logon, database, and look and feel, all of which are designed to reduce unnecessary duplication and cross-training burden. Since January 2009, we have started to release a series of applications to be integrated within a single framework known as UCM (Unified Communication Management) which we leveraged from our Traditional Nortel Voice team. We have since then introduced 4 applications (VPFM, IPFM, EPM, NRM) as well as integrated within UCM framework already supporting Subscriber Manager (SM) for CS1k mgmt. Now customers can now enjoy a SINGLE SIGN-ON, SINGLE discovery, Common Workflow, multi-vendor tool for end to end management. We even allow other vendor’s proprietary mibs to be integrated. Avaya now offers a MULTI-Vendor management discovery & monitoring tool in VPFM. This is a unique value proposition that most of our competitors don’t offer. VPFM represents the foundation of our mgmt framework and with recent introduction of ERS8600 Rel 7.0 we have integrated more automated KRI/KHI management within VFPM allowing customers to easily monitor their core network with 8600/8800 without the level of complexity other tools would require (SolarWinds as an example) EPM is also highly strategic to deliver on our centralized energy efficiency dashboard and control. EPM will deliver power management and allow customers to centrally optimized the speed of various ports to yet achieve another 39% savings per switch if all ports are dimmed down to 10Mb instead of running at GIG overnight….please note, our competition wants to shutdown ports to save energy and establish some proprietary wake on LAN approach, we don’t think Powering OFF = ALWAYS ON !!!
