Pacific Theater Of War Japan: invades French Indochina ( now Vietnam ) in 1941 The United States: places an Embargo or Restriction on Oil, Fuel, & Scrap Metal from being sent of traded with Japan December 7, – Japan Attacks Pearl Harbor FDR Says It’s ‘A day which will live in infamy’ in a post bombing Speech to America The next day Dec 8, 1941: Congress declares war on Japan

Island hopping Strategy:– Fighting from Island to Island Across the Pacific All the Way to Japan.
Why ? To set up temporary Harbors for Supply And Fuel Bases and Airplan Runways / Air Bases. The Goal ! Bypass the islands controlled by Japan in order to get as close to Mainland Japan as possible !
