Called special session Declared a bank holiday Directed banks to accept all deposits Make emergency loans for food and animal feed Only certain banks were allowed to conduct these financial instructions

FDIC- Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation TVA- Tennessee Valley Authority WPA- Work Progress Administration AAA- Agricultural Adjustment Act CCC- Civilian Conservation Corps NIRA- National Industrial Recovery Act FERA- Federal Emergency Relief Administration

7 T.V.A Tennessee Valley Authority
It built dams in Tennessee to turn water power to electricity

8 C.C.C Civilian Conservation Corps.
18-25 year old men worked in the corps to preserve the environment, they were supervised by the U.S. Army and Labor Department

9 F.E.R.A Federal Emergency Relief Administration Distributed $500million to state and local relief agencies.

10 A.A.A Agricultural Adjustment Administration
Helped farmers who had been hard hit by depression, by paying them a subsidy, or financial assistance

11 F.D.I.C Federal Deposits Insurance Corporation
Reassured banks and their customers that their money would not be lost, and if it was , then it would be re-imbursed.

12 Works Progress Administration
W.P.A Works Progress Administration Helped put unemployed teachers, artists, writers, and actors back to work.

13 Social Security Act Provided pensions for retirees 65 or older and their spouses Unemployment compensation system Aid to families with dependent children and the disabled

14 FDR tries to pack the Supreme Court
FDR wanted to add 6 justices to the Supreme Court. Help pass New Deal programs. Did not work.

15 Result of the Depression
 The New Deal altered permanently the role of American government in the economy. Since the 1930s, the role of the federal government has concentrated on protecting citizens’ welfare.

16 Roosevelt against “Doling” out money
Dole- Government Charity Did not want to give money to people Thought broke down their self respect and their will to do work
