Oracle Product Strategy Integrating Applications
11/7/2018 Fusion Terminology Type Focus When Vision Oracle Product Strategy NOW Architecture Design Approach Business Processes Configurability Integrating Applications Industry Standards Service Oriented Best Practices Business Tools Fusion Middleware Applications Fusion Applications 11g This Year The term “Oracle Fusion” is being used in at least 4 ways Four perspectives. Oracle Fusion is first, a strategy for creating best-of-breed applications that are highly configurable. Oracle Fusion is also the software Architecture that will guide next generation custom applications using industry standards. Then Oracle Fusion Middleware is the set of products to integrate applications, improve productivity and tailor software to meet business needs. Oracle Fusion Applications initial release 2008. With Full Suite to be released in 2009. With so many possible definitions, Fusion created a lot of expectations and questions. Regardless of which definition you prefer, I’ll be covering each of them Let’s look at the Architecture that Oracle is moving toward.

11/7/2018 Fusion Applications Oracle Quotes describing the Fusion Applications: Oracle Fusion Applications are a single application product line that will combine and enhance the best functionality from all Oracle Applications product lines. Oracle Fusion Applications will deliver this functionality in a Services Oriented Architecture on the open, standards- based Oracle Fusion Middleware platform. Oracle Fusion is Oracle’s vision for next-generation enterprise technologies, applications, and services that will revolutionize business. Here are some quotes that illustrate Oracle’s approach for the newer Fusion Applications And here are the characteristics we are seeing in newer applications such as R12
9
11/7/2018 Fusion Applications Incremental release over several years – coexistence with others Goal is 80% for Oracle customers to adopt Relies on Fusion Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) Release 1 is Sales Force Automation – 1st half of 2008 (Siebel) Release 2 is the Integrated Suite – Planned for late 2008 Automated Upgrade Process included EBS and 12.X Migrates business configuration (Flex Fields…) Upgrade Assistant as OEM plug-in A to B transformation to a new Database Most Data Migration while E-Business Suite is running Embedded Analytics throughout (BI for everyone!) User Interface based on Web 2.0 with a high degree of personalization The Fusion Apps will be released incrementally and complement rather than replace existing applications. Over the next 5 to 10 years Oracle expects a high percentage of customers to eventually migrate to these new applications which will be an integrated suite similar to the E-Business Suite. These new applications will provide a Web 2.0 interface with customizable desktops and heavy use of the browser. Reports will be based on XML. There will be more built-in analytics that show operational processing status. There will be more emphasis on business process flows that manage the automation of Order 2 Cash and Procure 2 Pay. And underneath is all will be a Service Oriented Architecture to better support future changes and enhancements. With introduction of all of these changes, Oracle is clearly outlining that existing applications will continue to be supported.

12
Fusion Business Value 11/7/2018
What’s the value that your organization will see from Oracle’s focus on bringing Fusion technologies to the applications?
13
Business-Centric Processes Evolutionary and Adaptable
11/7/2018 Fusion Business Value Business-Centric Processes Industry Standards Compliance Evolutionary and Adaptable Business Insight Available Now We see six areas of business value. =business model basis for software development. Aligns software to business process. =Standards reduce proprietary lock-in. Improve interoperability. =Tackles Compliance and Risk Mitigation. SSO, Database Vault. Integrated security in Middleware. =Allows evolutionary change. Legacy links. Simpler to modify process flow. Less impact to operations. =Better information faster, better business decisions. =Rolled out incrementally. Grid Computing, OAS10g, AIA, OFM. Part of Release 12. Given this value, how are most organizations using Fusion today, in the early stages?
14
Applications Integration Improve Business Decisions
11/7/2018 Fusion Focus Applications Integration Improve Business Decisions Improve Security Management Fusion today offers specific value in these three areas.
15
Applications Integration Architecture
11/7/2018 Applications Integration Architecture Oracle Developed Integration Layer, built on Fusion Middleware SOA that provides Architecture, Governance, Best Practices Intended to help jump-start Client SOA development Addresses Need for SOA Guidelines for Integration Lack of Architectural Blueprint Inconsistent Business Semantics Lack of standardized Business Service Definitions Ensuring Compliance and Mitigating Risks Doing More with Less One of the biggest challenges today is getting applications to synchronize and talk with one another not only within the Organization but also with partners, vendors and customers. One of the benefits of the Fusion approach is the ability To use SOA and products like AIA to speed up the development and simplify the management of interfaces between systems. The key to SOA and AIA is that is involves less programming. Instead the developers focus more on connecting services together to solve problems. AIA is Oracle’s quick-start for building best-of-breed SOA practices in your organization. It contains the tools to get started with SOA and a framework that will keep you on the right road. Like any new technology, you can use it badly or use it well. AIA helps you use it well.
16
Application Integration
11/7/2018 Application Integration E-Biz, PeopleSoft, Siebel, Fusion Apps, JD Edwards Partners Siebel Customers Vendors Legacy Systems AIA AIA AIA AIA In the area of Application Integration, you need the Fusion Middleware 10g, and the AIA Foundation Pack. Once you have these you can develop custom integrations or purchase pre-built integrations called Process Integration Packs or PIPS. Either way, by using the AIA Foundation Pack you get a common framework and approach to building robust integrations more quickly and more cheaply. Custom Integration Process Integration Packs Foundation Pack Fusion Middleware (SOA Suite)
17
Master Data Management
Consolidate/Federate master information from disparate systems and business lines into one repository Cleanse and Enrich data centrally Distribute data as a service from a single point of truth to consuming applications, enterprise business processes, and decision support systems Another option being used to integrate applications is Master Data Management. This product allows organizations to Centralize master information from many systems and databases into a single repository. MDM is part of the Fusion Middleware product line. 17
18
Business Insight Past Present Future Traditional Business Intelligence
11/7/2018 Business Insight Traditional Business Intelligence Embedded Analytics Corporate Performance Management Focus on the Real-Time Results Focus on what could/should happen Focus on the Past Results Data Warehouse, OLAP, Reporting Business Activity Monitoring Forecasting Data Mining In addition to integrating applications, Fusion is intended to deliver better information more quickly. Traditionally Business Intelligence has been a look into the past. But today the real benefits are providing real-time business intelligence to those operating key business functions. That’s why the new Fusion Applications include real-time graphs/charts as part of the desktop. These provide real-time feedback on key processes in the organization such as Order Management, Cash Management, and Procurement. The user doesn’t have to leave the application to monitor these key processes. The future of Business Insight is to improve the ability to predict what will happen and allow organizations to prepare before hand. This is the future direction, so we will see more of this over the next 5 years. Past Present Future

Business Intelligence
11/7/2018 Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE) Interactive Dashboards Answers - Adhoc and Query Analysis Publisher – Reports and Documents Delivers – Alerting engine Plugins – Microsoft Office Disconnected Analytics OBIEE Server Hyperion Packages (analysis/reporting) Oracle’s standard BI offering is OBIE. It supports both the traditional BI/Data Warehouse the new predictive abilities of Corporate Performance Management.
20
Business Activity Monitoring
11/7/2018 Business Activity Monitoring Business Real-Time Updates Current Operational focus vs. Historical Review Designed for Operational Staff not just Managers/Planners Will be built into the Fusion Applications Uses a BAM server that can process thousands of messages per min BAM is a view of how future information is going to be delivered to the desktop. This product subscribes to messages and then produces real-time displays of activity. The key to BAM is that is can be customized for the role of the user. BAM is also part of the Fusion Middleware.
21
Improved Security Enterprise Identity Management Reduced Risks
11/7/2018 Improved Security Enterprise Identity Management Managed external to the Applications Access Management – Single Sign On Identity Management – Provisioning, Auditing, Passwords Role Management – Role Based Access Federation Management – Securing data w/Partners Internet Directory – single point of reference Reduced Risks Consolidate Management Extensible and Standards-based The last area where we see Fusion being leverage is in improving application security. Identity Management is a real need as organizations become multi-national and security becomes more and more of a concern. With IdM, a user logs in one time and has access to selected applications and selected functions in those applications based on their role in the organization. IdM provides a centralized console for managing user access across dozens of applications and even operating systems.

11/7/2018 Fusion Concepts I’d like to now look at 3 concepts that are behind all of these Fusion technologies. Once you grasp them, you will see how they are being incorporated through out new Oracle applications.
24
Key Fusion Concepts EDA SOA BPM Event Driven Architecture
11/7/2018 Key Fusion Concepts EDA Event Driven Architecture SOA Service Oriented Architecture BPM Business Process Management Here are three acronyms you need to get familiar with: Fusion leverages these so let’s find out more about them.
25
Event Driven Architecture (EDA)
11/7/2018 Event Driven Architecture (EDA) Built into Fusion Middleware Monitor, Analyze and Respond to Business Events Requires minimal coding Creating a new User, creates a Business Event which triggers ing them a user guide, or shipping a security token or scheduling training EDA is designed to control Workflow Outside the Application Suite Business Activity Monitoring Enterprise Messaging (JMS) Interoperable with non-Oracle EDA is like Oracle Alerts. Different from Alerts. Outside Applications. Can be used to initiate workflow and other processes. Like a software nervous system. Reduces lost opportunities or lost revenue. Provides more timely information. Used with BAM. Operational feedback for Line of Business managers who need to monitor Key Performance Indicators. Great to use with Operational Dashboards Next look at Basics of Service Oriented Architecture or SOA.
26
Service Oriented Architecture
Software architectural approach based on industry standards Set of software tools for automating complex tasks involving people, multiple applications, and outside organizations. Uses building blocks called “Services” or “Web Services” A Service is a discrete set of business or technical software functionality Update Customer Address Verify Credit Score Get Manager Approval Orchestrated using the Business Process Execution Language (BPEL) Relies on Industry Standards (XML, BPEL, SOAP, HTTP, WSDL, WSIF) Integrates Legacy systems as well as new business applications into a seamless process Includes Human Workflow to allow approvals and reviews Ask about my SOA 101 Presentation SOA has been growing to a critical mass over 10 years. Needed standards and tools to mainstream Built on distributed computing and Modular programming Consider problems of Legacy systems which are complex, easy to break. Require Lots of testing. Slower to change than Business. SOA changes this. Reduces to simple steps. Uses Services/Web Svcs. Written in Java. WS provide building block of functionality – Check Inventory – Update Address Works with legacy systems. Distributes across servers. Easier to update. Orchestrated with BPEL. Like a batch command language for Services. Sophisticated. SOA Uses SOAP/HTML/JMS for messaging. WSDL – Web Service Definition Language – provides information about Service WSIF – Web Service Invocation Framework – provides a wrapper for non-webservices so they look like a webservice. This is great for integrating legacy functionality as a Service. Now Look at an example of XML which underlies many standards used
27
Business Process Modeling
11/7/2018 Business Process Modeling STEPS TOOLS Optimize the Process Monitor the Process Execute the Process Implement the Process Simulate the Process Model the Business Process Business Activity Mgr BPEL Console BPEL Manager JDeveloper BPA Simulator BPA Modeler Organizing your applications around Business Processes ensures that fewer things get dropped and that you have a full end-to-end view of how things are processing. By aligning the application processing with your business processes, there is greater efficiency throughout the organization. The first step requires understanding your organization’s unique business processes, documenting them and then configuring the applications to model these processes. Oracle has already delivered the key tools for doing all of this. As the Fusion applications are introduced, there will be a greater ability to configure the applications to match your business rather than the other way around. One thing to remember: Business Processes change and when they do, your applications need to adapt as well. This is a key focus of the Fusion strategy.
28
11/7/2018 Benefits of EDA, SOA, BPM Real-time updates and information for more accurate decisions Better insertion of your unique business processes in your applications Better system connectivity to vendors, customers and other enterprise systems Adaptable Business Systems more easily updated via evolution not revolution Greater reliance on industry standards Here’s brief overview of the three Fusion Concepts and how they will improve the way applications work for our business.

Release 12 Fusion Roadmap
11/7/2018 Release 12 Fusion Roadmap Release 12 has been out for about 19 months now. Let’s look at how it shows some of the elements of Fusion.
30
Release 11.5.10.2 vs. R12 Release 11.5.10 – GA November 2004
Eight of 22 Family Packs Need to be Patched Financials, HRMS, Projects, Manufacturing, Purchasing/Procurement 60% Forms, 40% Java Minimal XML, uses Applications Server Premier Support Ends Nov 2010 – Lifetime Support Must be on (CU2) to upgrade to Fusion Applications Release 12 – GA January 2007 RUPs Only – Oracle Financials and Oracle HRMS Release Update Packs (RUP5) Available 60% Java, 40% Forms Extensive use XML, uses 10g Applications Server, more Services Premier Support Ends Jan 2012 – Lifetime Support This brief comparison highlights several Fusion capabilities. Release 12 is moving away from traditional Oracle Forms and becoming more and more web-based. It leverages the standard of XML for reporting and other functions. It relies on the new Application Server 10g which has all of the new SOA features and products. And there are many new interfaces that use Services in Release 12 so that using SOA for integration is much easier.
31
Release 12 Released January 2007
Third RUP Level (12.0.3) and above are Federalized released May 19, 2008 Only contains Financials and HRMS Release Update Packs Requires other one-offs (see Doc ID ) RCD available from Doc ID Watch Doc IDs and for more updates 12.1 expected by year end – major enhancements + bug fixes 60% Java Based Fusion Middleware 10g (11g in Beta) Release 12 is still being introduced to the market and the vast majority of users have not moved to it from 11i. One of the reasons is that 11i has several more years of Premier support left so there is not much pressure. The other reason is That Oracle has committed to provide an upgrade patch directly from 11i, release to the Fusion Applications. Release 12 has had its share of problems in the first year or so and there have been a large number of patches particularly in the HR and Payables products. Also of note is that the newer Applications Server 11g is now in beta and will include improved functionality acquired from the purchase of BEA. The important thing to note is that R12 is not for everyone. Here’s why.
32
Release 12 Initiatives Think Globally – Get Global View
Real-Time Operational Reporting, Global Financial Consolidation Work Globally – Global Processes New User Interface, Financial Shared Services Delivery Model, New Human Resource Localizations Manage Globally – Reduce Costs New Web Services Repository, Maximized use of Fusion Middleware Extend and Evolve to Next Generation Standards Based SOA Technology R12 introduces many changes that are designed for large, global organizations. These may or may not have value to those organizations that are national or regional. There are significant changes in the Sub Ledger area of GL and the user interface has been improved to allow quicker movement between operating units. 32
