5. Green transport and mobility
4.1. Develop demonstrations of innovative and/or improved transport and logistics solutions with potential to move large volumes of freight away from long-distance road transportation
Focus is on:
Identifying viable multimodal routes and goods flows and barriers to wider use of these routes and piloting solutions to remove these barriers
Ensuring that NSR services and routes link up to the major corridors being promoted by the EU (TEN-T)
Supporting the development of improved logistics solutions to facilitate these developments

4.2. Stimulate the take-up and application of green transport solutions for regional freight and personal transport
Focus is on:
demonstrating the potential of immediately available solutions such as car-sharing, multi-use vehicles, and non-conventional fuels
promoting and preparing for the wider roll-out of alternative fuels for privately owned vehicles
supporting long-term solutions to reduce travel needs and promote healthier forms of mobility

SHARE-North – addressing the challenges and potential of shared mobility modes (car sharing, bike sharing, ride sharing) and working toward a livable and low carbon NSR
SEEV4-City – developing ways to charge electric vehicles by locally produced renewable energy
HyTrEc2 - creating conditions for the development of a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles market and promoting the NSR as a Centre for Excellence for fuel cells and range extenders
#IWTS 2.0 – developing slow, cheap, climate friendly hinterland transport alternatives for commodities transported in large quantities or bulk
G-PaTRA - promoting green transport and mobility by enhancing the capacity of authorities to reduce CO2 from personal transport in remote, rural and island areas
SURFLOGH – optimizing interaction between the hub and the urban logistics system, promoting both efficient and sustainable logistics in urban areas in smaller and medium-sized cities, city regions and networks.

9. Problems that future Priority 4 applications could address
CO2 emissions per passenger km are expected to drop by 44% between 2010 and HOWEVER, by 2050 overall transport emissions are expected to still be more than 15% above 1990 levels, which doesn’t approach the 60% reduction target.

In addition to emissions and other drivers of climate change, there are substantial transport-related environmental pressures:
air pollution, e.g. increasing levels of NO2, due to growing use of diesel engine vehicles
biodiversity fragmentation
traffic congestion
inefficient use of urban space and noise pollution
OECD estimates that number of deaths per year due to air pollution will decrease from 412 to per million inhabitants in This is not enough.

Next step is the Expression of Interest (EOI)
But let’s start with the development characteristics of the concept prior to drafting the expression of interest.
Before you consider to go for the expression of interest you should already have a concept ready that is:
advanced in its development
describes an established project consortium
describes a clear budget framework
clearly defines the objectives of the project
provides clear indications of project results.
If this describes the status of your concept then you are ready for the expression of interest.

13. How do we support your work?
So – how do we as a programme support your work with drafting your expression of interest?
We have implemented the Online Monitoring System in which you draft and submit your expression of interest.
Project advisors at the Joint Secretariat will be available for answering content-related questions up until the date the call opens.
You can already start preparing your Expression of Interest in the Online Monitoring System and submit it any time between 30 June and 28 August. We recommend NOT waiting until the deadline.
Your national contact point (NCP) will also be able to support your work with drafting the expression of interest.
