Today has been co- produced by a small group of service user representatives over two Saturdays.
- We felt there was a need for all SUR to meet up and get to know each other.
- 100 Service User Representatives (SUR) in database.
- A lot of hard work to work out what we really wanted the day to look like and what are aims and objectives were.
- A socialising event making time to get to know each other as well as what being a SUR means.
- Steering group approved the content of the day once the 2 meet ups happened.

Our SURs influence in the system
UI is now embedded into the structure of GM Cancer – Therefore, we are a fundamental part of designing, improving and monitoring of the cancer system.
We have 2 user reps on every pathway board and Cancer Board, all are a place to influence, challenge and hold to account, listen and learn, offer our input and experience and importantly to keep reminding everyone that patients/service users should be central to whatever is happening –
So this an important mechanism for how we will help improve cancer services in GM

These are some of the key areas of work that our service users involved in the programme feel are a priority from a patient/carer perspective. These are all things that are committed to in the GM cancer plan and are happening or should be happening across the cancer system.
The first 5 bullets are cross cutting and affect every tumour site/pathway – these should be part of the work of every pathway board!
The other 2 are a little more specific areas but there are work streams within GM responsible for these areas of work.
So what we will be asking you to do later on at the end of the day is to tell us what you think are top 3 things that matter most. This will help guide us to know what are the areas that the UI programme needs to spend more energy on. This will help our Pathway/Cancer Board reps know how what they should be looking for and they can then be holding boards to account for the delivery of these priorities on behalf of people affected by cancer.

Also, as mentioned earlier today you will have seen the 3 flip charts around the room with these headings on. These were issues that constantly came up throughout the planning sessions and regularly come up in lots of conversations we have with our SURs throughout all the work we do. Therefore, rather than add these as a priority, we felt it was important to make sure that these become some of the ongoing work which will underpin the programme and act as enablers to ensure we can delivery the objectives of the programme.
So please also during this session have a look at those, we are also looking for anyone who is interested in being on the working groups.

So the purpose of this session is for you to have some open space to find out more about some of these areas of work that have so far been identified as important aspects of cancer care, service development and delivery that must improve across GM. Lots of you in the room have tons of knowledge about some of these issues, so this is now about sharing your insights, knowledge, passion and also gaining some more knowledge and awareness of things you might not know so much about!
There is an area of work on each table and a brief overview of each one and what GM has committed to do about it. The MUIT are on the tables – shout out where you are what topic…
You can jot ideas thoughts down on the paper table clothes as you go round, could be anything at all, your thoughts about the issue, you might want to know more about it…anything ..
This is your space, so you decide what table / area to go to, some of you know about some of these areas of work so please share your knowledge with each other….
