This year three SCE projects – in addition to ongoing maintenance work – are taking place in the greater Malibu area:
Topanga underground (2015 – 2017)
Santa Monica Mountain pole replacement (2015 – 2017)
Malibu Canyon Pole Replacement (April 2017 – March 2018)

3. New Project: Malibu Canyon Road
The presentation contains information about the Malibu Canyon Pole Replacement Project. The purpose of this project is to improve safety and reliability by replacing poles along a 3.5 mile stretch of Malibu Canyon Road. This project is in partnership with several telecommunication companies who share space on SCE poles.

4. Project Summary
Project area is 3.5 miles of Malibu Canyon Road, between Harbor Vista Drive and Piuma Road
Remove and replace poles, including removal of existing guy poles and guy wires
Anticipated project duration: April 2017 to March 2018
Most project work will take place within LA County, a small portion of the project is located within Malibu city limits

5. Malibu Canyon Road: What to Expect
Construction Schedule:
Night Work: 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning with lane reductions
Day Work: 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday work on road shoulder, no lane reductions
Work is planned to be suspended on weekends, designated “red flag” days when fire danger is extremely high, peak summer months (late-June through September), and the following holidays:
Memorial Day 5/29, Labor Day 9/4, Veteran’s Day Nov 11, Thanksgiving 11/23-24, Christmas 12/24-25, New Year’s 12/31-1/1
Traffic Impacts: Malibu Canyon Road will remain open throughout most of the construction period
Night time lane reduction could slow traffic flow due to lane reductions
Day time work along the shoulder will not impact traffic flow
Some full road closures are required for crew and driver safety; advanced notification provided when possible
