1
Write an Equation in Slope-Intercept Form
2
What is Slope-Intercept Form of an Equation?
y = mx + b The equation includes the slope “m” and the y-intercept “b”. This format makes it easy to graph the equation.
3
Write the equation of a line whose slope is -2 and y-intercept is (0, 3).
Start by writing y = mx + b. Substitute “-2” for m. Substitute “3” for b. The equation is y = -2x + 3.
4
Write the equations of the lines that include:
Slope = 1 y-intercept = (0, -1) Slope = 1/3 y-intercept = (0, 9) m = 5/2 b = -6 y = x – 1 y = 1/3x + 9 y = 5/2x - 6
5
Write the Equation of a Line from a Graph
Remember to use y = mx + b. First find where the line crosses the y-axis, that is “b.” Next find two points and count the slope, that is “m.” Then substitute into the formula. Right 2 Up 4 4/2 = 2 y = 2x - 4
6
Write the Equation of a Line from a Graph
Remember to use y = mx + b. First find where the line crosses the y-axis, that is “b.” Next find two points and count the slope, that is “m.” Then substitute into the formula. Down 2 Right 3 -2/3 y = -2/3x + 2
