SCD has been offering Global Impact programs since 2007!
What is it? > Seattle Colleges District students, faculty and staff > partnering with educational institutions (Seattle University, UW Tacoma, Sydney TAFE), Seattle-area medical, service-oriented community organizations > to deliver global health-related volunteer service in developing countries. SCD has been offering Global Impact programs since 2007! 2

GLOBAL IMPACT Why? Provide opportunities to expand our world—beyond typical study abroad locations. Service learning (volunteering with reflection) changes lives. SCD has 15+ allied health programs (BAS degrees in Allied Health and Nursing, RN, Dental Hygiene…) programs on all 3 campuses. Seattle has outstanding medical and educational institutions. Seattle-area professionals and community members have demonstrated interest and experience in volunteering time and expertise in the developing world.

Public Health Infrastructure Development
Clinical Healthcare Medical /Dental Clinics, Medication, Fluoride Varnish GLOBAL IMPACT Preventive Education Program Model Nutrition, oral hygiene, pre-natal care, hand washing, HIV/AIDS prevention, etc. Public Health Infrastructure Development Water filters, clean-burning stoves, sustainable agriculture, composting, etc.

GLOBAL IMPACT Volunteer Goals
Our volunteers will develop skills and grow in awareness and appreciation in the following areas: Begin to understand and appreciate cultural and socio-economic diversity Effective communication with non-native English speakers Providing services to non-western populations, including adaptation to culture and values Begin to learn to triage Embracing the value of lifelong service to the local and global community 6

GLOBAL IMPACT Client Goals
Our clients will be positively impacted by volunteers in the following ways: Self-identified community needs are addressed Immediate diagnostics, care/services Recommendation/referrals for further treatment and assistance Preventative education, enhanced infrastructure Can report that they have been treated with respect and dignity, will gain trust in care providers/volunteers Improved ability to communicate future needs. 7

GHANA EXPEDITION August 21 - September 4
Our program is located in Cape Coast. We will be working with poor, rural communities, conducting health clinic outreach campaigns, teaching health education regarding nutrition and sanitation-- and will be involved in a variety of infrastructure initiatives related to public health. Ghana Exhibition is in Partnership with ProWorld Ghana. 8

VIETNAM VILLAGE TREK August 21 - September 1
While trekking in the mountains to villages in the Mai Chau highlands, we will be working with rural communities... …setting up health clinics, providing fluoride varnish treatments and educating locals on oral hygiene and hand-washing. Infrastructure projects will include installing water filters, and construction projects for hygiene/sanitation improvements.

PERU QUEST August 21 - September 4 Over half of Peru's 25 million people live in poverty, making it one of the poorest countries in South America. Peru Quest is in partnership with ProWorld Peru.

PERU QUEST PROJECTS Clinics: acute care; exams and testing, fluoride varnish, exams and extractions Health Education: puppetry and posters in local schools: nutrition, hand washing, and oral hygiene. Public Health Infrastructure Development: installing clean burning stoves and water filters

Our program begins in Agadir
VOLUNTEER MOROCCO August 21 – September 4 Our program begins in Agadir Join Global Impact on its newest program in Morocco! From the city of Agadir we will travel into the countryside to work in the rural village region of Riad Imsouane. Projects: health clinics health education sustainable farming testing water for potability
