Before Viewing “Mythology in Literary Culture”
Individually, brainstorm several different “character types” that you might find in literature, modern TV shows, movies, or dramas.

CHARACTER ARCHETYPES! Ally: shows faithful support to the hero; assists in quest Mentor: teacher or counselor for the hero; represents conscience

As You Watch… Define the five archetypes from the video:
Transgressor Destroyer Hero Temptress Trickster Note the classical and modern examples of each archetype, and think of your own!

Transgressor--Someone who tests the limits of human knowledge
Destroyer--Someone who destroys for destruction’s sake Hero-- Someone who completes a mission only he/she can do Temptress-- One showing the perpetual power of love.. compellingly beautiful. Trickster-- One who survives by his/her wits instead of by his/her power.

After Viewing Get into groups of two or three
Using the definitions of two or three archetypal characters, create a dialogue centered around a conflict of your devising. Dialogue should be ½ page and should reflect the archetypes’ behaviors portrayed in the video. Two to three groups will act out their dialogue, allowing the class to determine archetypes present.
