3. Things to remember… Named Water bottles- taken home everyday Purses PE – Wednesdays and Thursdays at present and school PE kit is still required including navy t-shirt with school logo. Jewellery, including earrings are not allowed to be worn for PE following H&S advice. PE kit in school everyday. Named School Bags- large bags dont fit on pegs. Punctuality- children must arrive between 8:50 and 9:00. End of the day routines and arrangements for children who walk home. Pencil cases are allowed although not compulsory- school will provide all stationery Wellies- every Wednesday

4. Forest School Takes place on Wednesday afternoons for half a term. The children will need to bring wellies and, as the weather gets colder, scarf hat and gloves. Forest School takes place in all weathers. Waterproof coats and trousers are provided. Transition Excellent links with Duffryn High School – Year 5 taster morning

5. Reading Vital skill Shared Reading Guided Reading Independent Reading Rich and engaging reading activities Reading books- need to be in school everyday. Reading activity set once a week- written on bookmark.

6. Spelling Spelling strategies - look, cover, say, write, check - phonics - word roots/ prefixes / suffixes Spelling Journals- these contain 5 individual high frequency words/ errors in writing, which the children learn each week with a test on a Friday. Weekly spelling lists- children are introduced to a new spelling pattern each week and will be sent home with 10 new spellings on a Monday. Children are engaged in daily activities related to this spelling pattern. They are tested on a Friday.

7. Assessment for Learning Daily basis - Teachers assess pupils learning on a daily basis, adjusting planning according to these outcomes. Support Groups are established, for short periods of time, for individuals who require a boost in a specific area of learning. Marking highlights the next steps for learning Peer and self assessment such as traffic lighting, 2 stars and a wish comments, response partners are all familiar to the children.

8. Home Learning Home learning books are send home every Monday and returned every Friday- a register is kept of completed and returned home learning There is always a sheet that explains the tasks, these include: - a mini project and/or a maths sheet to consolidate learning in class - 10 spellings - times tables- essential for speedy calculations, tested Fridays - Reading- some groups will be re-reading chapters read in class that day, other groups will be pre-reading ready for discussion in next session. There will be a task/objective set for home reading every week. Children must be reading every evening. Mathletics

9. Home-School Links Sharing concerns with class teacher- I am always available at the end of the school day. Extra support Communication If you need to pass on a message at the beginning of the day, either send your child in with a note or pass the message on to the member of staff on the door who will make a note of it and pass it on to me ASAP. Children walking home School Website- updated with dates for your diary, blogs and other information (school handbook, school meals, downloadable forms, Governors Report to parents, policies).
