Sedimentary Rocks

Sedimentary Rock Rock formed from other rocks that are compressed and cemented together or as dissolved minerals reform and build up in layers underwater.

Classification Clastic Rocks: Rocks that are formed from parts of other rocks.

Types of Clastic Rocks Conglomerate: Cemented rounded rocks 2 mm or larger Breccia: Angular cemented rocks 2 mm or larger Breccia Conglomerate

Clastics Continued Sandstone: cemented and compressed sand
Siltstone: compressed silt Shale: compressed mud and clay Shale Q.H. Sandstone Cave Sandstone Siltstone

Non-Clastic Chemical: made from precipitation of minerals or evaporation of water. Organic: made from biochemical processes

Chemical Rocks Evaporates: Halite, Gypsum
Limestone: Precipitated Calcite from seawater (CaCO3) Dolomite (Dolostone): Calcium Magnesium Carbonate (CaMgCO3) Limestone Dolomite

Organic Rocks Some Limestone: Coquina, Fossiliferous Limestone
