1
View the following slide show and take take Cornell notes
2
Types of Rocks There are three main types of rocks:
Igneous - formed when molten rock cools. Sedimentary – formed by the “cementing together” of small grains of sediment. Metamorphic – rocks changed by the effect of heat and pressure.
3
Igneous Rocks These are rocks formed by the cooling of molten rock (magma.) magma volcano Magma cools and solidifies forming igneous rocks
4
Go to the internet and find 2 examples of ingneous rocks to add to your notes. then continue with the slide show
5
The shiprock was formed from
cooling magma. What kind of rock is it? IGNEOUS ROCK
6
Sedimentary Rocks Sedimentary Rocks are rocks formed when particles of sediment build up and are “cemented together” by the effect of pressure
7
Made from layers of particles and sediments that are cemented together
by the force of pressure. What kind of rock is this?
8
Go on the internet and find 2 examples of sedimentary rocks to add to your notes. Then continue with the slide show
9
Metamorphic Rocks Metamorphic rocks are formed by the effect of heat and pressure on existing rocks. Magma Pressure from surface rocks metamorphic rock forming here heat
10
This rock was formed under ground due to the forces of heat and pressure.
What type of rock is this?
11
Go to the internet and find 2 examples of metamorphic rock to add to your notes. Then continue with the slides
12
Rock Cycle Define rock cycle and draw a diagram.
