What is Canvas? Canvas is a Learning Management System
Allows students and teachers to manage their coursework electronically Web-based 24 hours a day/7 days a week from Internet connected computers or mobile devices Add course specific comments

Who is using Canvas? Select courses at AHS, Lowery,
Curtis, Ereckson, and Ford Starting with select courses at AHS, Lowery, Curtis, Ereckson, Ford More courses may be added at semester and for next school year Teachers add comments based on course How they will start and use with their class

Accessing Canvas Must use Google Chrome or Safari browser
Website to access is canvas.allenisd.org Network user name and password Browsers supported are Google and Safari. Internet Explorer browser is not supported. Student user name is their ID number If a student does not remember their network password, the Library Media Specialist or Campus Tech can reset it

Navigating in Canvas Course Navigation Global Navigation
Breadcrumb Navigation Content Area Sidebar Help Center Course navigation – specific to one course, various buttons to click on to access different parts of the course Global navigation - Drop down boxes showing all courses student enrolled in, all assignments, grades, and calendar Breadcrumb navigation – path of pages that have been clicked on. Click the house icon to return to main dashboard Content area – assignments, videos, documents, and course content displayed here after clicking on one of the course navigation buttons Sidebar – quick links to announcements, calendar, feedback from teacher Help Center – shows who is logged in, messages from teacher, user profile settings Students information imported from Skyward Student is the student.allenisd.org Google account Student pictures will be imported later using official school pictures Help link – online guides, videos, frequently asked questions, etc.

Finding your Courses Hover your mouse over Courses
Drop down box shows the courses you are enrolled in Click on a Course to see the content

Module organization Click on Modules
Click on Modules to view course content. Course content is organized by Modules. Students may not see all of the modules for the course until a teacher unlocks the content. Most courses will have a Student Resources Module that holds documents that are needed throughout the year, like formula charts. Most courses will also have a Parent Communication Module the holds classroom and course information.

Modules may include Files – Word or Adobe documents, Powerpoints
Assignments Students click on a file, assignment, quiz, or link to view the contents. Assignments may have several steps in them, for instance watch the video then answer the questions. Quizzes Links to websites or videos

Calendar In Global Navigation bar: Each course has a different color
Calendar events coded by color Discuss different colors for each course. Tell students that this is now their system for knowing due dates, etc. Every due date is clear so that there is no confusion.

Setting up Notifications
1. Click Settings 2. Click Notifications You can see that your district provided is setup to receive notifications. Students can determine how often Make sure to get parents’ permission to receive text notifications on personal devices

Recommendations: Notification Text Due Date Daily Notify me right away/ASAP Course Content Daily or Weekly Announcement Grading Submission Comment Discussion Conversations AISD recommends the above for frequency of notifications. s will go to the students’ district supplied Google account. Text messages come from a 210 text message number. Text message fees apply. Students should get permission from their parents to use text messaging.
