Service Platforms and Interworking of Services Definitions Service Convergence: From the user’s perspective, services operate in a sufficiently similar manner (minimal or no perception of changes when accessing from different service providers, through different devices or different access technologies). Service Continuity: From the user’s perspective, services operate in a sufficiently similar manner (minimal or no perception of changes) as the user moves the active service between access technologies and devices. Service Delivery Platform: An architecture that enables the rapid development, deployment and integration (convergence) of broadband, video, wireless and wireline services. What is OSA/Parlay? Open Service Access (OSA) has been developed as part of the 3GPP specifications in coordination with ETSI and Parlay (and liaisons with 3GPP2, OMA, and others). The Parlay Group is a multi-vendor consortium formed to develop open, technology-independent APIs that enable the development of applications that operate across multiple networking environments. This diagram shows how ISG would look in the network. As shown in the diagram, it is assumed that there will be a firewall between the service provider and enterprise networks. ISG implements the Parlay standard APIs through a set of service capability servers (known as SCSs). Service capabilities map the standard APIs to the network services using the network interfaces and protocols. This slide boils down the Intelligent Mediation Function’s essence. Protocol Interfaces to Network Elements on the bottom, Industry Defined APIs on the top, and middle ware to glue them together. These are the potential for network elements the ISG can hook up to. Some are naturals for today’s Intelligent Network … SCPs and HLRs for example. Others take today’s IN and stretch it. For example, instead of treating Prepaid as a self contained service, what if there were protocols to interact with parts of a Prepaid service. It becomes easy for Prepaid to be combined with other capabilities for better services. Pick out a few more capabilities - Mail, GMLC, Softswitches for example, and emphasize that their value becomes much greater if they are linked together.
