Your Co-Worker’s Computer 1 License File ArcGIS for Desktop 3b Your Computer Used once to authorize the license manager ArcGIS for Desktop 3a Authorizes software use on networked computers for 1 year ArcGIS License Manager 2 Authorizes software use on networked computers for 1 year

License Manager without a Server
Your Computer 1 License File (.prvs) 3 ArcGIS for Desktop Used once to authorize the license manager 2 ArcGIS License Manager Authorizes software use on localhost (i.e. your own computer) for 1 year

“First Things First”

Install all Software First
Install ArcGIS Advanced 10.x.x This is your Desktop software Do Not authorize at the end of the software installation License authorization will take place using License Server Administrator with the steps in this presentation Install ArcGIS License Manager 10.x.x Install ArcGIS Data Interoperability 10.x.x Save the License file somewhere on the computer you are installing the software on Filename: esri_concurrent_use_licenses_######.prvs This is a simple text file the License Manager will use to read the license numbers Note: License Server Administrator and License Manager are used interchangeably in this presentation

“License Server Administrator”

Open License Server Administrator
1 Navigate to the License Server Administrator in your Programs list and open the software ArcGIS License Manager License Server Administrator (1)

Start/Stop License Service
Insure you are on the “Start/Stop License Service” folder (1) Stop the Licenses by clicking on the “Stop” button (2) The Status will change to “NOT RUNNING” (3) 1 2 3

Configure Click on the “Configure” Folder (1)
Change the “Max Borrow Time” to 364 days (2) 1 2

Availability Click on the “Availability” Folder (1)
The features window will be empty if this is the first time authorizing (2) Insure “Concurrent” shows in the drop-down in the upper right portion of the window (3) 3 1 2

Authorization Click on the “Authorization” Folder (1)
Select the correct Version in the drop-down (2) Once selected the “Authorize Now…” button becomes active Click on the “Authorize Now…” button to start the authorization process (3) 1 2 3

1 3 4 2 While the first radio button is selected under “Authorization Options” (1): Click on the radio button for “ArcGIS for Desktop” under “Product to be Authorized (2) Click the third radio button under “Authorization Options” (3) Click the “Browse” button and navigate to the .prvs license file you saved earlier (4) Click “Next >” (5) 5

Insure the first radio button “Authorize with Esri now using the Internet” is selected (1) Click “Next>” (2) 1 2

The information from the .prvs license file populates the next few screens Change the data on this page if you like (1) Changing the data will result in receiving the Esri newsletter Click “Next>” (2) 1 2

Complete the three drop-down’s with the same selections in the screenshot to the right (1) Click “Next>” (2) 1 2

The information from the .prvs license file populates the license numbers You should only see one license number under “ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced” (1) Do not change or remove this number Click “Next>” (2) 1 2

The information from the .prvs license file also populates the extension numbers Only the first eight extensions will have license numbers (1) Do not change or remove these numbers Leave the other three extensions blank Click “Next>” (2) 1 2

The information is now being sent to Esri for Authorization When the authorization is complete and successful you will see the “Congratulations” comment (1) Click “Finish” (2) 1 2 NOTE: If the Authorization attempt fails or there is a loss of internet connectivity you will need to repeat the previous Authorization steps

Availability Once you click Finish on the Software Authorization Wizard the License Server Administrator will re-open to this screen and folder (1) Confirm the features show up in the feature list on the right portion of the window (2) 1 2 NOTE: if nothing appears in the Features window, try closing the License Server Administrator and re-opening it to refresh the list If re-opening doesn’t work you will need to repeat the previous Authorization steps

Start/Stop License Service
Click on the “Start/Stop License Service” folder (1) Click the “Start” button (2) It may take a few moments for the service to start Once the “start” button is grayed out (3) confirm the “License Server Status” is “RUNNING” (4) Click “OK” (5) 1 2 3 5 4

Open ArcGIS Administrator
1 Navigate to the ArcGIS Administrator in your Programs list and open the software ArcGIS ArcGIS Administrator (1)

Desktop Open ArcGIS Administrator (1)
Click on the “Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use” radio button (2) Click on the “Define a License Manager now” radio button (3) Type “localhost” (4) in the window Click “OK” (5) 1 2 3 4 5

Summary That’s it, you’re done and your software is now authorized and ready for use Open ArcMAP and begin mapping Have fun!
