Year 3: Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) Purpose: To assess Resident Educators skills and practices as measured by proficiency on the Ohio Standards for the Teaching Profession

Year 3: Resident Educator Summative Assessment (RESA) Developed through collaboration with Stanford University, Teachscape, and Ohio Department of Education with input from RESA Advisory Design Group.

Resident Educator Summative Assessment

Assessment of Artifacts Trained assessors review and score submitted artifacts. Scorer reliability will be checked through random double-scoring of submitted artifacts. Assessors will not score submissions of teachers they know.

RESA Assessors Assessors have 5+ year of teaching experience; are current, retired, and former educators, professional developers, and coaches.

Year in the RE Program Prior Years of Teaching Experience Resident Educators in: Year 3 of RE program Year 2 of RE program AND whose districts/schools have requested credit for 1 year of prior teaching experience and have submitted their names to ODE per the defined process Year 2 of RE program AND whose districts/schools have requested credit for 2 years of prior teaching experience and have submitted their names to ODE per the defined process

Determining Readiness for RESA Employers (districts/schools) determine REs readiness to prepare for and take RESA in Year 3.

Supporting Resident Educators in Year 3 All Year 3 REs must receive support. Year 3 StatusType of Support REs not taking RESA State-trained mentor (one-to-one; RE cohort; co-teaching) REs taking RESAState-trained facilitator

Supporting Year 3 Resident Educators NOT Taking RESA REs not participating in RESA in Year 3 must have an assigned trained mentor.

Supporting Year 3 Resident Educators NOT Taking RESA Mentors will follow a Year 3 Best Practices timeline (similar to Year 2) to support their REs who do not participate in RESA in Year 3.

Year 3 Timeline of Best Practices for REs Not Taking RESA

Supporting Year 3 Resident Educators NOT Taking RESA REs who do not participate in RESA in Year 3 and have completed Year 3 requirements will complete a Year 3 Formative Progress Review in Spring 2014 and begin RESA in Fall 2014.

Supporting Year 3 Resident Educators Taking RESA REs who take RESA in Year 3 will be supported by a state-trained facilitator and are not required to have a state-trained mentor to support them, though a mentor may serve as a facilitator.

Supporting Year 3 Resident Educators Taking RESA Required facilitation training will be online beginning in late summer 2013.

RESA Completion If RESA participants are unsuccessful in passing all part of RESA in 2013-2014, they may retake deficient portions in 2014 – 2015. Costs to implement RESA (use of software platform; site licenses; assessors; facilitation training, etc.) paid by ODE.

Resident Educator Program Year 4 More information about professional learning opportunities for Year 4 REs will be provided in Fall 2013. Resident Educator License Extension While the RE license is not renewable, it is extendable on a case-by-case basis (per Ohio Revised Code 3301.24.04). A license extension policy will be provided in Fall 2013.
