A Magnificent Animal, The Elephant

The African Elephant The African elephant lives in central and southern Africa. Male African elephants can weigh 7000 kg and be up to 4m tall. Their ears can be 6 ft. tall. They have level backs and a round flat head. This is an African elephant.

The Asiatic Elephant This is an baby Asiatic elephant. The Asiatic elephant lives in Asian southeast countries. Male Asiatic can be 9ft. tall and weigh 10,000 lb. They have 2 bumps on their forehead. Their backs bend up in the middle. Usually only male Asiatic have tusks.

The Elephants’ Behaviors
An elephant will clean themselves four times a day so they don’t get hot. They can make sounds through their trunk to show emotions or to talk. A lot of elephants stay in a herd until they’re much older. They spray dust on them or roll in mud so bugs won’t bother them.

Interesting Facts About Elephants
Usually lions, tigers, wild dogs, and hyenas will try to attack the young elephants. Bull is another word for a male elephant. Cow is a another word for a female elephant. Calf is another word for a baby elephant. This elephant is standing on its hind legs to eat.
