10 Early Action v. Early Decision v. Early Opportunity
Early Action - An accelerated college application process in which students typically must complete their applications in November. In most cases, students will then receive a decision from the college before the new year. Early Decision – Similar to Early Action but Early Decision is BINDING. You must attend that University or lose a sizable enrollment deposit. Early Opportunity – Many colleges have early scholarship deadlines that they encourage students to meet to receive scholarship, financial aid and admission decisions during the fall semester.

12 Letter of Recommendation
Pick up a questionnaire in the counseling office and return (TYPED) with a resume. Consider asking a teacher or other faculty member with whom you have a close relationship. Allow a minimum of 10 school days for recommendation letters! DO NOT….I repeat DO NOT expect a letter the same day you drop off your resume and questionnaire!! PLAN AHEAD/WE DO NOT DO “JUST IN CASE” LETTERS Concurrent - Mrs. Walls has offered to help you if you need assistance with Resumes. There are also some great education examples on Google. Parents- Your student needs to be the one to request and complete the information needed for their recommendation letters. It is vital that your student get experience filling out College Applications and requesting information from their Teachers and/ or Counselor. This is a great Life skill to learn now, before sending them off to college.

You must choose: Leadership, community service and talent-based scholarship programs to receive the prompt for ALL scholarship opportunities on campus.

16 Common App – Common Mistakes
Under “Manage Recommenders” You MUST add your counselor’s address to have your transcript uploaded – regardless of who will be writing your letter of recommendation.

17 Common App – Common Mistakes
FERPA – WAIVE YOUR RIGHTS! In the application you'll be asked if you want to waive this right. Why would you want to do that? Waiving your right lets colleges know that you do not intend to read your recommendations, which helps reassure colleges that the letters are candid and truthful. Some recommenders may refuse to write a letter for you unless you waive your rights. Check with your counselor or teachers to see if any of them follow such a policy.
