Membership figures for 2014-2016
As of 31 May 2016, ZI has 29,677 members. When compared to 31 May 2014: Let’s look first at our numbers during the last biennium. As you can see, our membership dropped during the past biennium, but only 149 members—less than ½%. You and I know that we “OWLS” are committed to the mission of Zonta and that we will work hard so that we can achieve a breakthrough in membership growth for the biennium. NEXT SLIDE

Districts with positive growth: District % Increase 17 11.56% 23 2.53% 10 9.6% 22 4.09% 26 7.35% 2 1.39% 24 6.89% 4 1.36% 32 3.56% 28 1.31% 7 3.08% 27 1.17% Mongolia 3.03% Here’s a list of districts that grew during last year. For the last biennium, 12 districts out of 32 registered a positive growth rate as of May 2016. Notice that District 10 is number 2 in positive growth—9.6%. Certainly a number we can be proud of. District 10 Membership Stats— Membership Mountain
May 2016: 685 May 2018: 720 Last year was a good membership year for us. That’s great but as you educators know with all the testing, when you do well in one year, you only have to do better the following year. That’s where we stand now. We ended on May 31 at 685 members. As of September 15, we stand at 574. It’s that old membership mountain! This is a healthy number for this time, but you can see that we do have a challenge facing us. ZI has a goal of a 5% increase during this biennium, but because we did so well last year, we’ll need to do even better than that to reach a 5% goal by May We’ll need 720 members. That may seem a staggering number, but remember, it is only 35 members more than where we were May 31. We can do that. Remember Strength in Numbers! NEXT SLIDE May 2015: 625 September 2016: 585

2016-2018 Membership Biennial Goals
Build and sustain a vibrant global membership. Engage the next generation of gender equality advocates. Recruit and retain committed and skilled members. Specific goals for membership: Districts show a net membership growth of at least 5 percent to previous biennium. Districts achieve a net increase of at least one additional club during the biennium. ZI Membership Biennal Goals: 1.Engage the next generation of gender equality advocates. This goal addresses our support of SDG Goal #5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. 2. Recruit to Retain Specific goals: % increase in membership over the last biennium 2. Net increase of at least one additional club As a district we have set the goals that align with these of ZI: 1. We are going to work to charter a new club during this biennium. I’d like for all our clubs to think about where might be a great place to try to develop a new club. Your board has some ideas, but I would love to hear from you. 2. And, we are going to try our best to achieve that 5%membership growth. We’ll look for new Zontians in all the circles through which we travel. And, we’ll have our membership events. In addition, ZI has some new tools for us. NExt SLIDE

Young Professional Membership Category
Targets Young professionals under the age of 30 Lowers International dues by 50 percent Maintains $15 new member fee Leaves local dues up to local clubs Reverts to full Zonta membership at age 31 with full ZI dues applied One new ZI initiative relates to trying to bring young professionals into Zonta. The hope is that former ZI and local scholarship winners and Golden Z members will be more likely to join if they are given a small break in dues. This is a pilot program. The results will be analyzed for the 2018 Convention. This is a $40 break in ZI dues. $43 + $15 = $58, instead of $98 District 10: $28 Club: Varies ZI plus District 10: $86 The guidelines are still being prepared for our ZI website. But, if you have someone interested in this new option, let me know and I can give you the ZI contact information. NEXT SLIDE

Membership Pilot Program—VOICES
Related to the new fees for young professionals is this new ZI initiative: In July, 2014, the North/South America ZIMC discussed how members could better promote membership in Zonta. The idea proposed was to create a membership campaign including the word Voices as a tagline. As the biennium unfolded, it was decided that a pilot program would be developed first in NA, where membership was steadily declining. NEXT SLIDE “Recruit to Retain”

This link was designed specifically for non-Zontians, what we like to call potential members, visiting the ZI website. It is designed to stimulate interest in Zonta by asking visitors three questions about: empowering women around the globe envisioning a world in which women’s rights are recognized as human rights being part of a global network of people who share your commitment to empowering women to take ownership of their own lives? Add this specific link to your membership PR documents. The site will provide you with valuable tools to promote this campaign. Other Aids: Use the tools available on ZI. And if you are planning a membership event, remember that you may apply for OMC Funds from D10. Guidelines on our website. NEXT SLIDE

Successful Recruitment is not the end of the story
Successful Recruitment is not the end of the story. We must “Recruit to Retain.” Reach Out Receive Reinforce Recognize Retain So let us say that we have successfully recruited some new members. Is this the beginning or the end of the story? It is only the beginning of the story. After a successful recruitment, we must try our best to retain our members. So let’s make this priority for the biennium – we must recruit to retain. Actually, the first 2 years of a member’s Zontian life are the most important. New members will interact & make friends with other Zontians, contribute to fund raising, service & advocacy projects, and if their needs are fulfilled and if they find that club life is fulfilling, they will continue to stay in Zonta. They will make Zonta the organization of choice for themselves, sometimes for life. Just as you and I have. Now let’s recognize the successful membership effort made in D10 during the last year. So, again, I believe that using our voices and working together we CAN meet that goal of a 5% increase during this biennium. Now for individual recognition. NEXT SLIDE
