2. The Paris Conference World War I ended in 1918, on 11/11 at 11am.
1919: Paris Conference: meeting of leaders to discuss how Germany was to be punished

At the conference, President Wilson proposed a 14 point plan that he believed would bring stability to Europe. The French, however, were upset with Germany and felt Wilson did not punish them enough. France pushed for a harsher treaty.
In the end, the Treaty of Versailles was agreed upon.

Major Parts
War Guilt Clause – Germany blamed for war, forced to pay Reparations (payment for losses due to war)-- $64 billion.
Military Clauses – Limit Germany army: number of men, tanks, ships, UBoats, and area they are located  
Territorial Clauses – Land returned to countries, League of Nations controls colonies
Germany was not invited to the conference. Instead, they were forced to accept the terms and sign the treaty. They began payments on the reparations, but the total amount was cut in half in The payments stopped when Hitler took control.

Kaiser Wilhelm II abdicated from the German throne on November 9th This, coupled with the high reparations payments, left Germany in shambles.
As the US went through their own ups and downs after World War I (which we will study over the next month), Germany was in the midst of a struggle that would produce one of the most infamous leaders of all time: Adolf Hitler.
