Renewables in India: Solar and Wind
Currently installed total solar PV generation capacity is 5 GW Most regions of India have an abundance of source of solar energy Target for 2022 is 100 GW which implies almost 30X of the currently installed capacity Wind Generation Capacity Currently installed total wind generation capacity is ~27GW Western and southern regions of India include 90% installed capacity Target for 2022 is 60 GW which implies almost tripling of the currently installed capacity Solar Generation Capacity

Electric Vehicles Government of India had launched the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020 in 2013, to achieve national fuel security by promoting electric and hybrid electric vehicles. In 2015, the Indian government launched Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicle (FAME) scheme under which the government has set aside $12 million subsidy to provide discounts on purchase of electric vehicles in Electric 2/3 wheeler and fleet vehicle market is expected to grow at a tremendous rate Requirements for charging infrastructure, smart meters and testing are likely to gain importance Due to the government motivation and incentives the Indian EV marked is poised for immense growth over the next 5 years. Technological innovations in EV technology and charging infrastructure will have immense growth potential. Need for Ancillary Services for 21st century Power Quality
Consumers have no ability to resolve the grid frequency on their own. In a synchronized grid this has to be managed by grid operators. India can address a significant part of the frequency issues by allocation of GW of flexible resources hydro, gas based generation and EES. IESA is leading efforts for promotion of the ancillary services market by actively engaging policy makers, central electricity authority and other key stakeholders. Last year IESA released a report outlining the roadmap for adoption of EES for grid frequency regulation.

Global Manufacturing Scale & Make in India
LEAD ACID battery leads the energy storage market in production and sales LITHIUM ION batteries are currently being manufactured in the GW scale (portable, transportation and grid storage) FLOW BATTERIES are currently being manufactured on a MW scale. Production may scale up significantly in the next 5 years Thermal Storage technologies are seeing fastest growth due to applications such as air conditioning and cold storage Move Tesla and Panasonic to 50 GW and take BYD (20) also there. Samsung LG NEC (<10) earlier. Add CATL (10). India has the potential to become global hub for advanced energy storage manufacturing in coming decade through innovation & technology partnerships 10

Storage Cost vs. Cycle Life Comparison
Lead Acid batteries are work horse for the industrial and residential backup and provide lower capital cost solutions , while Li-Ion & Flow batteries are emerging as solutions for applications requiring higher cycle life. ENERGY STORAGE performance metrics: Capital cost ($/kWh) Cycle life Roundtrip Energy Efficiency Space footprint C-rate (duration) Usable SOC range IESA on the slide. IESA analysis predicts that levalized cost of storage can drop from ~Rs 15/kWh to under 5 Rs/kWh with in next 3 years 11

Conclusions India is poised to adopt advanced energy storage technologies that can act as enablers for 21st century grid India presents a huge market (70GW+ by 2022) and has the potential to become global hub for advanced energy storage manufacturing in coming decade through innovation & technology partnerships Current annual market for Lead Acid batteries is ~$3.5 Billion & Indian telecom companies have deployed over $500 Million worth of Li-Ion batteries in past 2 years apart from being one of the fastest growth markets for thermal storage Indian policy makers are keen on encouraging energy storage technologies given the challenges faced and are working on National Energy Storage Mission IESA is your gateway to Indian Market for understanding opportunities, regulations, finding partners and staying informed on opportunities. India presents a huge market for advanced energy storage solutions Current annual market for Lead Acid batteries is ~$3.5 Billion which does not address some of the new market opportunities India also presents excellent opportunity for collaborations for R&D, manufacturing and exports Indian policy makers are keen on encouraging energy storage technologies given the challenges faced IESA is your gateway to Indian Market for understanding opportunities, regulations, finding partners and staying informed on opportunities. Move Tesla and Panasonic to 50 GW and take BYD (20) also there. Samsung LG NEC (<10) earlier. Add CATL (10). 12
