At least 3 questions in the W column of the KWL chart A MINIMUM of 2 printed articles that relate to your topic

6 Now What: Creating an Annotation System
Know Want to Know Learn The U.S. has 2 major parties—republican and democrat. What evidence supports the benefits of a two-party political system? Our nation is very divided politically, but most people I know aren’t satisfied with what either party is accomplishing. What evidence indicates that a two-party system is not the most effective? Both parties have very specific platforms. What approaches do other democratic countries use that might be more effective? Candidates seem to vote based on party affiliation rather than what is best in a given situation. Why are there not more political parties in the U.S.?

7 Annotated Texts

8 Analyzing Your Annotations
Did you notice a dominant color that stood out more than the rest? Did you notice a color that was under-represented or not represented at all? Which questions need more attention? Which points do you think are proven to the most convincing degree? Do I need to develop more research questions? Do I need to look for more articles? What key words should I use for that search?

9 Now It’s Your Turn Using your highlighters, create a color-coding system for the questions you listed in the W column of your KWL chart. As you read your printed sources from Google Scholar or the Tennessee Electronic Library, highlight content that answers your questions based on the color-coding system. Once you finish annotating, answer the questions below to determine your course of action. Is there a dominant color that stood out more than the rest? Is there a color that was under-represented or not represented at all? Which questions need more attention? Which points are proven to the most convincing degree? Do I need to develop more research questions? Do I need to look for more articles? If so, what key words should I use for that search?
