The American Revolution
Age of Revolution: began in British North American but spread to other parts of the world including the Caribbean and Latin America. Liberty emerged as the foremost rallying cry for popular discontent.

Causes of the American Revolution
Colonists were seen as subordinate Representation- British insisted on “Virtual representation.” Colonists insisted on No taxation without representation Proclamation of 1763 limited western expansion Enforcement of the Navigation Acts Taxation: Sugar Act, Stamp Act (printed material), Currency Act (banned colonists from printing money); Stamp Act was the tipping point***; Tea Act Townsend Acts: More taxes and regulations on British imports

Causes of the American Revolution
The Intolerable Acts- Curtailed town meetings, governor could appoint members to the council, empowered military to lodge soldiers in private homes.

Colonial Resistance Committee of Correspondence: colonial committees throughout the colonies that encouraged colonists to oppose the Sugar and Currency Act Sons of Liberty: Group that protested and led the boycott of British imports Daughters of Liberty: Women who made products at home as not to purchase British goods Boston Tea Party (1773)
