Draw a story! Who was Guru Nanak? Turn to the back of your book.
Split your WHOLE page into 10 boxes. We are going to draw the story of the young Nanak – you need to draw exactly what you hear – you can’t use any words (only pictures!)

Draw a story – this is the part that the teacher will read aloud:
Guru Nanak was born in 1469 CE in India – both his parents were Hindus. When Nanak was a child he was often asked to look after his fathers cows. Nanak sat down to look after the cows and began meditating – the cows escaped into the neighbours field and he was very angry BUT there was no damage to the field or the cows AT all Another time when meditating a dangerous snake came towards Nanak – instead of harming him he shaded him from the sun When Nanak was 30 he went into a river to pray and disappeared 3 days later he appeared and said he wasn’t missing but he was with God He said that when he asked God which path he should follow (which religion should he be?) God had told him to follow God’s path. Nanak was once invited to a meal at a poor mans house. A local rich man got jealous and said come to my house instead. When he was at the rich mans house Nanak only ate food from the poor man. This made the rich man jealous and he asked Nanak why he did this. Nanak squeezed bread from the poor man and bread from the rich man. From the poor mans bread flowed milk. From the rich mans bread flowed blood. Nanak told the rich man that he didn’t eat his food because he had used slaves and earned the food by causing suffering whereas the poor man had worked hard for his food.
