A Little History 2009 - Chicago Section Fund Established
2010 – Science to Go Prototype Project funded by the Chicago Fund was Completed 4 11/7/2018

Building on Success We knew we had something special
Decided to seek funding from the IEEE Foundation Chicago Section pledged $5000 from their Reserve Region 4, Several Librarians, Dominican University and PLA wrote letters of support 5 11/7/2018

Project Objectives Support public libraries in the development of math and science collections for pre-university students. Be a catalyst for educating students about how math and science are used for the benefit of humanity Provide seed money for creation of library programs and projects that will make a lasting impression on a community Demonstrate the skills required for a career in electrical engineering. 6 11/7/2018

Library Grant Criteria
Public Libraries located within Region 4 Covers grades K to 12 Provide Science Kits for Circulation Plan for sustaining the project Maximum Grant per library = $2000 Agree to cooperate with IEEE on publicity Involvement of local IEEE members is a plus 7 11/7/2018

2011 Project Progress April - IEEE Foundation Grant proposal submitted
June - IEEE Foundation and Life Member Board Approves $40,000 Grant Proposal July - First Payment of $8000 Received from IEEE Foundation - Advisory Committee is Formed. August – Documentation and Announcements September - Press Releases and Notifications December –Received 80 Grant Proposals 8 11/7/2018

Grant Awards December - 25 Grants to Libraries in 9 States were approved January - Awarded Libraries were notified and informed of the local Section Chair Contact 9 11/7/2018

Iowa Dubuque County Library Collaborative effort with Electrical Engineering Students from Northeast Iowa Community College Marshalltown Public Library Increase Participation in Lego League Competitions Sioux Center Public Library Involvement with Dordt College IEEE Student Branch 10 11/7/2018

Illinois Crystal Lake Public Library Expanding their STEM Learning Program DeKalb Public Library Partnership with Northern Illinois University Frankfort Public Library District Seeks to Offer Opportunities for Hands-On Science Investigation Mahomet Public Library Will teach about technologies of the Smart grid and Renewable Energy Moline Public Library Will Provide Support for 15 area schools 11 11/7/2018

Beyond 2012 IEEE-Chicago Section Plans to Continue Grants to 1 or 2 Libraries Annually within the Chicago Section Territory Look for Opportunities to Tell the Story at IEEE and Library Association Events May Seek Another Grant from the IEEE Foundation Implement plan for sustaining the project 21 11/7/2018
