Most people made their living farming Farmers traded or sold livestock and crops

17 Colonial Jobs Besides farming and shipping there were skilled traders or artisans They used raw materials to make their goods Artisans learned their skills by becoming apprentices Apprentices lived and worked with an artisan and their family for several years to learn a skill
