1 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Preliminary Results from the Positive Expiratory Pressure Study * * The PEP mask increased arterial oxygen saturation by 8% on average, i.e. equivalent to a  m descent => The effect on muscle and cerebral oxygenation is under analysis Nov 2015 – S Verges

2 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Preliminary Results from the Positive Expiratory Pressure Study The PEP mask did not change end-tidal CO2 partial pressure, i.e. did not change significantly minute ventilation. => The expiratory pressure and the breathing pattern rather than hyperventilation are responsible for the increased SpO2 Nov 2015 – S Verges

3 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Preliminary Results from the Positive Expiratory Pressure Study * The PEP mask did not change arterial systolic pressure and induced a slight increase in diastolic pressure. Nov 2015 – S Verges

4 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Preliminary Results from the Positive Expiratory Pressure Study Low levels of interstitial pulmonary edema were observed at base camp (not clinically significant), the PEP mask has no effect on this. => The increase in arterial oxygenation with the PEP mask was not due to a resorption of interstitial pulmonary edema. The effect of the mask on individuals with significant interstitial subedema remains to be analysed. Nov 2015 – S Verges

5 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Preliminary Results from the Positive Expiratory Pressure Study Cerebral blood flow velocity was significantly reduced with the PEP mask => The effects on cerebral oxygenation and indexes of intracranial pressure remain to be analysed Nov 2015 – S Verges

6 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Preliminary Results from the Positive Expiratory Pressure Study The PEP mask did not change the low levels of symptoms scored at base camp => The effect of the mask on individuals with significant AMS remains to be analysed Nov 2015 – S Verges

7 MEDEX MANASLU 2015 – FRENCH RESEARCH TEAM
Data currently under analysis: Tissue oxygenation Heart function Sleep evaluations Nov 2015 – S Verges
