Road is the second biggest segment of GNSS market after LBS, very dynamic and changing constantly.
EGNOS and Galileo are already in many device models, with multi-constallation functions, ready for creating new Road applications.

4. These developments drive new requirements for vehicle positioning
Key market trends
Lower costs of data connectivity and consumer electronics drive the development of new applications
The number of embedded devices and On-Board Units (OBUs) is growing, replacing traditional nomadic devices
New Intelligent Transport System (ITS) services are expected to be deployed in the coming years, taking the use of GNSS far beyond in-vehicle navigation
V2V and V2X communications, is fostering the integration of GNSS with various technologies and sensors
New policies and regulations in Europe for automatic emergency assistance (eCall) or Digital Tachographs are also expected to accelerate the business case for these new concepts
The core revenues will grow at least until 2018, then might decrease due to lower devices prices.

6. EGNSS value proposition for Road
EGNOS improves accuracy and provides information on the reliability of GPS signal - it is now included in many automotive GNSS chipsets.
EGNOS has started to be valued in applications such as road charging and dangerous goods transport monitoring.
Galileo will bring immediate benefits in Road, as part of a multi-constellation solution.
It will add value in all applications by providing increased availability, especially in urban environments where the number of satellites in view can be limited. This will result in better accuracy and reliability of positioning.
Additional benefits are expected when the dual-frequency capacity of Galileo will be fully exploited by consumer devices.
