1 1-A)The graph of the function y =2x is shown below.
If the line is translated 3 units up, which equation will best describe the new line? A y =2x + 3 B y =2(x + 3) E y =2x -3 WE ARE GOING TO USE A TI-82 CALCULATOR TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION. OBJECTIVE 1

2  SYMBOL. NOW, LET US GO BACK TO THE PROBLEM 1)PRESS Y= . THEN,
HOW TO DO IT WITH A CALCULATOR(TI-82): 1)PRESS Y= . THEN, ENTER EACH EQUATION. MAKE SURE YOU PUT FRACTIONS IN ( ) USING  SYMBOL. 2)PRESS GRAPH. NOW, LET US GO BACK TO THE PROBLEM 3)COMPARE THE GRAPH WITH THE ONE GIVEN IN THE PROBLEM. CALCULATOR: HOW TO GRAPH A GIVEN EQUATION

3 THIS ONE LOOKS LIKE 3 UNITS UP!
1-A)The graph of the function y =2x is shown below. If the line is translated 3 units up, which equation will best describe the new line? A y =2x + 3 B y =2(x + 3) DIFFERENT SHAPE! DIFFERENT SHAPE! E y =2x -3 C D A B E DOWN NOT UP! THIS ONE LOOKS LIKE 3 UNITS UP! TOO MANY UNITS UP! OBJECTIVE 1

4 f( x) =3x -1 1-B)What is the range of the function
when the domain is {-3, -2, -1} ? A {-9, -6, -3} B {-10, -7, -3} C {-10, -7, -4} D {8, 5, 2} E {-1, 0, 1} WE ARE GOING TO USE A TI-82 CALCULATOR TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION. OBJECTIVE 1

5 Y1 TAKES THE PLACE OF f( x)
HOW TO DO IT WITH A CALCULATOR(TI-82): 1)PRESS Y=, ENTER THE RIGHT SIDE OF f( x) =3x -1 IN Y1 . Y1 TAKES THE PLACE OF f( x) 3)ARROW DOWN AND RIGHT TO Ask FOR Indpnt: AND PRESS ENTER. 2)PRESS 2ND , THEN WINDOW. 4)PRESS 2ND , THEN GRAPH. LET US LOOK AT THE PROBLEM AGAIN. 5)ENTER THE DOMAIN {-3, -2, -1} IN X COLUMN. THE CALCULATOR GIVES YOU THE RANGE IN Y COLUMN. CALCULATOR: HOW TO FIND THE RANGE

6 HERE f( x) =3x -1 1-B)What is the range of the function
when the domain is {-3, -2, -1} ? A {-9, -6, -3} B {-10, -7, -3} C {-10, -7, -4} D {8, 5, 2} E {-1, 0, 1} NOTE: IF THE DOMAIN INCLUDES FRACTIONS, PUT THEM IN ( )! THE NUMBERS IN THE RANGE WILL BE IN DECIMAL FORM. YOU ENTER THE Domain HERE THE CALCULATOR PUTS THE Range FOR THE GIVEN DOMAIN HERE OBJECTIVE 1

7 1-C) Given the relation between X and Y in the table below, What is the value of Y when X= -13?
65 -19 29 26 -35 X Y -1 -7 3 -19 -2 -4 5 -25 we use a TI-82 to find the value of x: 1)Press STAT, 1. Enter the X values in L1 and Y values in L2 . 2) Press 2nd STAT PLOT,1, Enter, ZOOM, 9. It seems that we can draw a straight line through all 4 points. So, we will find a linear relation between Y and X. we do so using a TI-82 STAT feature. 3) Press STAT, right arrow, 5, Enter. 5)Press 2nd TblSet.Change Indpnt to Ask This is the equations of the relation between X and Y Follow step 4 to put the equation in Y1 6) Press 2nd TABLE. Enter –13 for X and notice the value of Y which is 29. 4) Press Y= , VARS, 5, right arrow twice, 7. The correct answer is C. OBJECTIVE N

8 we use a TI-82 to find the equation:
1)Press STAT, 1. Enter the X values in L1 and Y values in L2 . It seems that we can draw a quadratic curve through all 5 points. So, we will find a quadratic relation between Y and X. we do so using a TI-82 STAT feature. The correct answer is J since a = -1 and c = 4. 2) Press 2nd STAT PLOT,1, Enter, ZOOM, 9. The value of b is very close to zero. It should be zero. The reason that it is not zero is rounding done by the calculator in the process of calculations. 3) Press STAT, right arrow, 6, Enter. OBJECTIVE 2

9 2) Press 2nd STAT PLOT,1, Enter, ZOOM, 9.
we use a TI-82 to find the amount of radioactive material at time 50 hours: 1)Press STAT, 1. Enter the Time values in L1 and the Mass values in L2 . 2) Press 2nd STAT PLOT,1, Enter, ZOOM, 9. It seems that we can draw an exponential decay curve through all 4 points. So, we will find an exponential relation between Mass and Time. we do so using a TI-82 STAT feature. 4) Press Y= , VARS, 5, right arrow twice, 7. 5) Press 2nd TblSet and set Indpnt to Ask. Then press 2nd TABLE and enter 50 for X. Notice the answer 2.25. To check your equation, enter 0,10,20, and 30 for X. The values for Y1 should be the same as given in the table above. 3) Press STAT, right arrow, arrow down to ExpReg, Enter, Enter.
