3 HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY STUDENT?
Attend the Junior College Planning Meeting (Good Job!!) Academically to keep grades up ACT/SAT Register at ACT.org or collegeboard.org ACT for Juniors at school on March 12, 2019 for FREE Try both ACT and SAT Take each test once or twice as a junior Goal: have a solid test score going into Senior year (one less thing to worry about) Begin a Student Resume/List of Activities Keep your grades up: when your kids apply to colleges in the fall of their senior year, they will send their transcripts that will reflect their grades from 9th, 10th, and 11th grades only. Junior year is huge bc it is the last set of grades they’ll see. Continue with the right level of rigor for your child – colleges want to see students challenging themselves over straight As in standard classes. Colleges will also see the senior year schedule, and some will as for the midyear report – grades after the 1st semester of the senior year. Sending scores: some colleges will look at just the highest, some colleges look at all scores and superscore (we’ll find out from the reps what they recommend in the Q and A portion of the evening). Usually taking it up to 4 times is OK. Student Resume: Colleges want to get to know students on a more personal level than what the transcript can provide so this is an opportunity to share more info, as well as in the personal essay.

4 HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY STUDENT?
Start with CAREER ideas and work backward Career Research: income, work hours, type of education needed Job Shadowing, Summer Internships, Volunteering Inventories: Personality, Interest, Skill ASVAB reports, PSAT reports, online resources Resources:

5 HOW CAN I SUPPORT MY STUDENT?
Visit colleges Campus Tours Open Houses When school is in session Sporting events College Campus Questions Small campus/big campus Far/near Program availability Cost Admission Requirements Narrow down the list down to 5 schools if possible Visit colleges: Selective universities take note of your visits and meetings. Some will offer an application fee waiver for visiting. Express your interest and get your name on their radars. Ask for an appointment with an advisor in the major you’re interested in. Feel welcome to contact admission representatives with questions – big part of their jobs. Narrow down your list: in the fall of the senior year, it’s all about getting your applications completed by the deadlines as if they’re all your first choice, after that, you have time to make a final decision – can use financial aid info to help – comes out in winter/spring. *New applications open in August of the senior year - don’t apply before then*
