13 DCA Region Meetings Identify Best Practices for Compact business
Encourage collective solutions for training issues Promote effective communication ‘Difficult Cases’ ‘Invalid Denials’ Establishing ‘good’ relationships w/ border states Share ideas & training tools! Contribute content ideas for DCA Institute 2018 Shared this a couple of times now…which really speaks to the new role of the DCA Liaison committee. These conversations need to happen but there also needs to be structure so that as a Commission our committees know the big picture of what’s truly happening in states, especially when it comes to addressing potential problems in ICAOS rules and policies. It needs to be known what states are doing to address issues internally, as a region and how DCAs in their leadership positions are working with their Commissioners to address any problems internally or with another state. Lots of requests for what good violation reports or good hearing waivers or reports, states should be sharing If issues affect multiple states (subpoenas, Indian reservations, supervision practices, etc.) share how your state deals with that situation Effective communication—most instances where states don’t agree in a situation are simply looking at the rules in a different way based on their take. If it hasn’t gotten to the point where your commissioner is requesting an opinion from our office or reporting an incident of a rule violation, it’s a communication issue between the two states.

14 DCA Institute Planning
Initial feedback received from DCA Region Chairs May 1st Training Committee meeting May 7th Finalized topic selections Task regions with soliciting examples and identifying solutions/best practices for presenting topics at ABM What are the steps your DCA/compact office takes to resolve issues? What has your DCA/compact office done/changed recently to improve operations (review procedures, communication strategies, address via training with stakeholders, etc.)? When challenged with compact rules (e.g. warrants/pending charges/retaking) are Commissioners & stakeholders (including State Council members) involved in solution conversations? Feedback, examples, volunteers due July 15th DETAILS!

15 Compact Staff Trainings
Topics/content: DCA Region Chairs DCA Liaison Committee Other Standing Committees Training topic requests require states to provide more details with their instate processes, policies and procedures. Continue as needed/requested

16 Technical & Training Assistance
Field/Stakeholder Training Assessment of compact operations/potential training needs or action Reminder on TTA policy per South Region recent discussion. Training goals and initiatives have evolved based on feedback from Commissioners/committees, DCAs, analysis of who was attending the open training sessions (lots of repeat training guests coming on asking the same questions) and most significant budget (these WebEx trainings when well attended can cost $1000 for a 2 hour session if we have good attendance, the training committee in strategic planning WebEx Training for field or anyone DID NOT go away, states simply have to ask for it.
