2 Overview of curriculum We aim to deliver engaging and innovative lessons which support the structure of the National Curriculum catering for all learning styles.

3 English Guided reading Guided reading: Once a week at least (led by an adult). Guided writing: Guided writing: Whilst working in groups, during the literacy lesson, children will receive support focussing on key areas for their progress. Spellings: Spellings: Children will be given weekly spellings. Would you please assist your child in learning these words. * Reading books: Reading books: A reading record and book will go home with your child. Please feel free to give your feedback on the reading record. School policy recommends reading with your child for 20 minutes a night. Please bring the reading records to school on Monday.

4 Maths Maths lessons: In the near future the children will be taught in groups that best cater for their needs. These groupings will be reviewed at the end of each term. Mental maths and multiplication tables comprise a central element of the maths curriculum. Currently year 4 pupils need to be able to derive and recall all multiplication facts up to 10x10 and corresponding division facts. (Being proposed) By age nine, pupils should know their times tables up to 12x12. (The draft Primary National Curriculum Programmes of Study for English, maths and science are more demanding than the existing National Curriculum.- Michael Gove, Education Secretary)

5 Wheres the maths zone? Every parent receives a Helping your child with maths guide when their child is in year 1.

6 Foundation subjects and Science Science: Electricity, Materials & Forces History & Geography: The Egyptians, Tudors & The Vikings Art: Observational drawings, Studying an artist (e.g Andy Goldsworthy) Music: Children attend singing practise weekly. P.E: Invasion games, Athletics and Gymnastics R.E: Leicester Diocesan Board of Educations scheme of work for Religious Education. Design Technology: Take a seat and Torches Please note that these are subject to change as we intend on creating a curriculum that is fresh, topical and relevant.

7 How can you help your child? We suggest…. On-going support with homework assignments Listening to your child read every day for 20 minutes 2 minutes a day practising times table recall Daily practise of spellings Working on the targets set by the last teacher in the end of year 3 report

8 National Expectations Pupils working within National Expectations: Year 3 are expected to reach 2A/3C Year 4 are expected to reach 3B Pupils working above National Expectations: Year 3 are expected to reach 3B/A Year 4 are expected to reach 4C

9 What do we need and when? Monday Monday : P.E and Games kit (in school all week) Reading record in to school Tuesday Tuesday : Spelling book brought to school New spellings go home Wednesday Wednesday : Homework returned Thursday Thursday : 4Ws homework goes home Friday Friday : 4Ks homework goes home P.E and games kit goes home

10 Uniform and kits School uniform details are on our website. It is most helpful if every item is named. (Please note that jewellery, painted nails and elaborate hairbands are not part of our school uniform. Watches and stud earrings can be worn) P.E kit needs to be suitable for indoors. A yellow St Johns t-shirt, dark shorts and plimsolls. Games kit to be suitable for outdoors. A tracksuit and trainers. (Warm active wear as we will be outside in the winter months) Jewellery, elaborate hairbands are not part of our school uniform. Simple stud ear-rings and a watch are allowed.

11 Trips…. In the process of arranging trips and visitors to inspire and further our childrens learning In the past trips have included…...New Walk museum and gallery. …Jorvick Viking centre.
