Early Life Malala is known as the Pakistani education advocate, but her movement as an activist began at just 11 years old, when she started an anonymous blog about the restrictive practices of the Taliban (the political movement that prevented girls from attending school) In her blog, she wrote about how the Taliban were attempting to control the valley and trying to prevent girls from attending school, which was very risky

What is the Taliban? The Taliban is a Muslim militia whose goal is to impose Islamic law in Afghanistan The Taliban’s interpretation of Islam is so extreme that even other strict regimes, such as Iran, say that the Taliban corrupts Islam and many of its rules have no basis in the Quran Their interpretation is so extreme that women can’t go out of the house unless accompanied by a male relative
5
The Rise to Fame Malala’s blog gained much prominence around the world and she soon became popular as an emerging activist who campaigned for girls’ rights to education Encouraged by her father to freely express her thoughts, she became more and more vocal about voicing her opinion of women’s right to education
6
Obstacles Malala’s rise to fame with her blog for women rights angered the Taliban They sent her multiple death threats condemning her to stop Malala didn’t let the death threats get in her way so they shot her while she was on her way home from school However, she survived the horrific attack and returned to activism even more determined than before
7
Reflection Malala Yousafzai has largely impacted the Southeastern countries and the stereotypical belief that women are inferior to men. She has changed and broken rules that kept women beneath men, and is a role model to all women to fight for their rights. Malala isn’t just an activist, she is a legacy.
