Purpose of tonight’s presentation
To develop your understanding of what the options process is. Understand the structure of the year 9 curriculum at AHS. Explore the extensive range of subjects on offer and understand the process of support offered by the school. Opportunity to ask any questions with regards to the next stage in your child’s education.

What is the Options process?
The beginning of your child mapping out their futures. This is the first step to pursue qualifications relevant to their chosen career path and future. Your child will be getting to choose some of the subjects they will be studying next year. They will then continue studying some of these subjects into year 10 – so they need to select carefully.

Our aims for our students.
The options process is designed to enable all students to achieve their potential and ensure that they have as many pathways open to them when they leave Ashcroft High School. Maintain a broad and balanced curriculum. Highest aspirations for all of you leading to you achieving your long term goals. Produce students with a “growth mindset” who are successful, responsible and confident learners.

Option Subjects Modern Foreign Language – French or Spanish
Humanities – Geography or History The Performing Arts – Dance, Drama, Music, PE Technologies – Art & Design, Product Design, Food & Cookery, Computer Science, Media Open choice – all of the above subjects

Points to remember Think about carefully what is on offer, talk to parents and listen to advice from staff. Students should choose subjects that fit into their future plans. Choose subjects for the right reasons. Choose subjects they enjoy. Select subjects that students will want to continue studying at GCSE

Key dates 14th – 28th November – Subject teachers presentation to students about subject next year. 18th November – Assembly for year 8 to launch the options process. 28th November – 2nd December year 8 students meet with House Team to discuss options. Options forms go home with students so that parents can check options and sign form. 29th November – Year 8 parents evening and presentation to parents about options process. 9th December – Year 8 options forms deadline returned to reception.
